  • Publication number: 20220369208
Abstract: The system supports a virtual carrier mode of operation in which downlink communications are made by a base station using a radio interface that spans a system frequency bandwidth while a terminal device is configured to receive at least some communications from the base station within a restricted subset of transmission resources selected from within the system frequency bandwidth. The system supports terminal devices in both a radio resource control connected mode and a radio resource control idle mode. When there is to be a change in system information the base station transmits to the terminal device an indication that updated system information is to be broadcast by the base station and this indication is received by the terminal device while in the connected mode. Before seeking to acquire the updated system information, the terminal device transitions from the connected mode to the idle mode.

  • Publication number: 20220322208
Abstract: An infrastructure equipment (eNodeB) is configured to transmit a paging notification which indicates that configuration information which is broadcast in a cell to all communications devices which are configured to operate in accordance with a network controlled function has changed. Communications devices which are configured to perform the network controlled function are provided with an indication that they should receive the configuration information which is broadcast in order to reconfigure the network controlled function. A communications device which is not configured to perform the network controlled function may not recognise the paging notification or at least may detect that it does not need to receive the updated configuration information for the network controlled service. Such communications devices may therefore remain in an idle mode thereby saving power.

  • Publication number: 20220295501
Abstract: A method of operating a terminal device and a base station in a wireless telecommunications system to communicate with one another using a primary component carrier operating on radio resources within a first frequency band and a secondary component carrier operating on radio resources within a second frequency band. The terminal device makes measurements of radio usage in the second frequency band, e.g. by other devices which are not part of the wireless telecommunications system but which can also use radio resources within the second frequency band. The terminal device transmits an indication of the measurements to the base station, and on the basis if this the base station establishes a configuration setting for the secondary component carrier, for example in terms of frequency resources to use for the secondary component carrier.
