    Abstract: A lightweight drive axle includes an elongate, tubular body having a first longitudinal end configured for coupling to a side gear in a differential and a second longitudinal end configured to support a vehicle wheel. The shaft further includes a screw disposed at the first longitudinal end of the body. The screw comprise a shank configured to be received within a bore in the body and a head having first and second portions. The first portion is disposed at one longitudinal end of the screw, has a first diameter and is spaced from the first longitudinal end of the body. The second portion is disposed between the first portion and the shank and has a second diameter less than the first diameter such that the first longitudinal end of the body and the first and second portions of the head define a groove configured to receive a shaft retainer.

Each voltage detector is coupled to a respective conductive element and configured to detect a charge generated by an impact to the polymeric foam within a sensing radius of the respective conductive element. In another general aspect, an apparatus includes a deformation sensor and a voltage detector. The deformation sensor includes a conductive element disposed in a polymeric foam, a portion of the conductive element extending beyond an outer wall of the polymeric foam. The voltage detector is coupled to the portion of the conductive element and detects a charge generated by the deformation sensor responsive to an impact to the polymeric foam.

    Abstract: The bezel assembly for data reception, for use with a bill validator in a financial transactional device, includes a bezel housing and a data reception assembly. The bezel housing includes a customer-facing front portion and a back plate connectable to the bill validator that is mounted within the transactional device cabinet. The front portion includes an insertion/dispensing slot for receiving currency and a projecting protrusion forward of the casing. The forward-extending protrusion accommodates at least a portion of the data reception assembly. The bezel assembly can include a wireless communication function that is communicably connectable with a mobile device via a wireless communication method, a manual entry function, a biometric reader, one or more cameras for scanning and decrypting 2D barcodes and the like, thus enhancing the overall functionality of the financial transactional device.

    Abstract: A method of manufacturing a fiber reinforced composite material lid for an utility vault including mixing an unsaturated polyester thermosetting matrix in to a resin paste, compounding the resin paste into a fiber reinforced composite material, maturing the compounded fiber reinforced composite material, cutting the matured compound into a charge pattern, molding the charge pattern in a mold cavity of a heated mold under low pressure to form the lid and cooling and machining the lid. The mold includes a cavity die and a core die having a shear angle for interfacing the core die within the cavity die and a steam pot for heating the cavity die and the core die, wherein the lid is molded between the cavity die and the core die and removed from the mold by a lid ejection mechanism.

    Abstract: A speedometer system is disclosed that replaces reliance on the feedback from a vehicle transmission and instead tracks the vehicle speed from an external source. The speedometer system further including a calibration unit that allows for the manipulation of the electric motor to display a predetermined calibration speed on the speedometer.

    Abstract: Accelerometers and capacitive touch sensors fabricated from inexpensive, lightweight, disposable substrate materials, such as paper, are provided. These can be fabricated using simple technologies, such as laser cutting and screen printing. In one embodiment, a touch sensor includes a parallel plate capacitor having a fixed plate formed of a substrate material having a conductive layer and a deflectable plate formed of a paper substrate material having a conductive layer. In a second embodiment, a touch sensor includes a parallel plate capacitor formed of an exterior conductive layer deposited on a paper substrate material and an interior conductive layer deposited on a substrate material. In a third embodiment, a touch sensor includes an active electrode and a grounded electrode patterned on the surface of a paper substrate material. In another embodiment, an accelerometer includes a parallel plate capacitor containing a fixed plate and a free plate containing a paper substrate.

The feedback sub-circuit is connected with the rectifier sub-circuit so as to extend a range of variable resistance of the JFET channel. The limiter circuit provides functionality that changes in response to varying audio voltages.
