  • Patent number: 8098681
Abstract: A system and method provide dynamic termination of the unused wired connections in a communications interface of a communications device. An interconnected controller, switch, and termination circuit are provided to connect at least one unused wired connection of the communications interface to ground in response to a pre-determined event. Dynamic termination of one or more unused wired connections of the communications interface can occur while still allowing power delivery, via the interface, to the communications device to maintain operation of the communications device.

Date of Patent: January 17, 2012

  • Patent number: 6275498
Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed for extending PHY addressing in a telecommunications device beyond the number of PHYS that may be directly addressed over a bidirectional serial management control bus using a management bus protocol employing a predetermined number of address bits for PHY addressing. A plurality of serial bidirectional management control buses are provided and plural PHYS are coupled to each of the buses. A control processor is employed in conjunction with control logic to select one of the plurality of management control buses as the active bus at any one time to permit communication between the processor and a selected PHY on the respective bus. State machines within the programmable array logic are employed to selectively enable buffers within the control logic to allow the processor to write information to a PHY on a selected control bus or alternatively, to allow the processor to read information from a PHY on a selected control bus.

  • Patent number: 6066001
Abstract: A conductive coupler electrically couples a conductive housing of an electronic device, such as a transceiver, to a conductive bulkhead in a reliable manner such that the electronic device is accessible through an opening in the bulkhead and a low impedance connection between the housing and the bulkhead is assured. The disclosed coupler comprises a conductive sleeve and tabs which are formed so as to capture the bulkhead between cooperative tabs when the coupler is urged into a mounting position. When the coupler is disposed in the mounting position a low impedance electrical connection between the coupler and the bulkhead is provided. The device includes resilient conductive members which extend outward from the device housing. The conductive members are urged against the interior surface of the sleeve and electrically couple the conductive housing of the device to the coupler when the device is disposed within the sleeve in a device mounting position.
