Publication number: 20220105481Abstract: A dispensing system for dispensing hot melt adhesive foam onto a substrate is described. The dispensing system comprises a pump having a first input to receive a hot melt adhesive and a second input to receive a gas, where the pump mixes the hot melt adhesive and the gas to produce a solution and pump the solution at a volumetric flow rate. The dispensing system also includes a valve to control an amount of the gas provided to the pump from the second input, a flow meter to measure the volumetric flow rate of the solution pumped by the pump, and a dispenser to receive the solution from the pump and dispense the solution to create the hot melt adhesive foam.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 13, 2020Publication date: April 7, 2022Inventors: Brian Burkley, Laurence B. Saidman, Howard B. Evans, III

Patent number: 10589233Abstract: Foam dispensing systems and methods are disclosed. Such systems and methods may include a foamed material dispenser, a dynamic mixer having a gas input, a process material input, and a foamed material output. The foamed material output may be in fluid communication with the foamed material dispenser. A pump having an output may be in fluid communication with the process material input of the dynamic mixer, and a gas injection valve may be in fluid communication with the gas input of the dynamic mixer. A gas pressure regulator may be coupled between the pressurized gas supply and the gas injection valve, and a gas injection cycle timer may be operatively connected to the gas injection valve, the gas injection cycle timer causing the gas injection valve to pulse open and closed to send pulses of pressurized gas into the dynamic mixer through the gas input.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 2018Date of Patent: March 17, 2020Assignee: Nordson CorporationInventors: Brian Burkley, Raymond M. Fetcenko, Charles P. Ganzer, Derrick O'Kelley, Jeffrey E. Owen, Leslie J. Varga

Patent number: 8534505Abstract: Methods and apparatus for dispensing liquid material provide the option to dispense precise and repeatable quantities or volume of material over a wide range of viscosities. In one embodiment, a metering chamber is provided that can be filled and emptied at the same time so as to eliminate time delays between dispensing operations. The material may be under pressure and that pressure is used to fill and empty a metering chamber. In another embodiment, a control device is provided with a metering chamber wherein the control device operates to switch pressurized fluid between two passages to the metering chamber. In a more specific embodiment, the control device may be, for example, a valve, and more specifically in one embodiment a pneumatically actuated spool valve.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2009Date of Patent: September 17, 2013Assignee: Nordson CorporationInventors: Mario Romanin, Brian Burkley, Les Varga, Chuck Ganzer, Jeff Owen

Publication number: 20120295024Abstract: Apparatus and methods for applying a coating of adhesive to laminate cover material in a profile wrapping operation. The apparatus can include a slot nozzle, a pressure roller, and a drive roller. The drive roller and pressure roller are movable to first positions in which the drive roller and pressure roller are spaced from the laminate, and second positions in which the drive roller and pressure roller contact the laminate to feed the veneer over the slot nozzle. The apparatus may be used to apply adhesive to raw veneer provided in strip form and to laminates provided in roll form.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 1, 2012Publication date: November 22, 2012Applicant: NORDSON CORPORATIONInventors: Brian Burkley, Dave Deibel, Dennis Dodge, Scott Walker
