  • Patent number: 4690711
Abstract: A process for preparing an iron group sintered compact involves forming an admixture of an iron group metal alloy powder additive and iron powder wherein the melting point of the alloy additive is at least about 50.degree. C. lower than that of the iron, compacting the admixture to form a green compact, and sintering the green compact at a temperature of from about 20.degree. C. above the solidus to about 100.degree. C. above the liquidus of the alloy additive whereby a sintered compact is formed. A compact having an iron group alloy additive as a continuous phase and iron as a discontinuous phase wherein the continuous phase has a melting point of at least about 50.degree. C. lower than that of the discontinuous phase can be prepared at lower sintering temperatures than a typical iron powder.

  • Patent number: 4596691
Abstract: A process is disclosed for producing a composite in the form of a sheet which involves forming a slurry of a brazing alloy powder and a vehicle, applying the slurry as a pattern or as a layer to a structural substrate, removing the vehicle from the slurry, and melting the alloy uniformly into a homogeneous mass without melting the substrate, and thereafter cooling the same to solidify it into a self supporting sheet.

  • Patent number: 4536215
Abstract: A process for addition of boron to an alloy which involves forming a melt of the alloy and a reactive metal, selected from the group consisting of aluminum, titanium, zirconium and mixtures thereof to the melt, maintaining the resulting reactive mixture in the molten state and reacting the boric oxide with the reactive metal to convert at least a portion of the boric oxide to boron which dissolves in the resulting melt, and to convert at least portion of the reactive metal to the reactive metal oxide, which oxide remains with the resulting melt, and pouring the resulting melt into a gas stream to form a first atomized powder which is subsequently remelted with further addition of boric oxide, re-atomized, and thus reprocessed to convert essentially all the reactive metal to metal oxide to produce a powdered alloy containing specified amounts of boron.

  • Patent number: 4409181
Abstract: A composition is provided consisting essentially of from about 50% to about 99% by weight of a silver-copper based brazing alloy and as an additive, from about 1% to about 50% to the composition, of a metal or metal alloy having essentially the same density as the brazing alloy and being essentially insoluble in the brazing alloy. The additives are selected from (a) molybdenum, (b) mixtures of molybdenum and at least one metal selected from the group consisting of cobalt, iron and tungsten and (c) mixtures of tungsen and at least one metal selected from iron and cobalt.
