Abstract: An ear-worn electronic device comprises a housing configured to be supported by, at, in or on an ear of a wearer. Electronic circuitry is disposed in the housing and comprises a processor. A power source and a receiver or a speaker are respectively disposed in or on the housing. A microphone array is disposed in or on the housing and operatively coupled to the electronic circuitry. The microphone array comprises a plurality of microphones. The processor is configured to operate a set of two or more of the microphones in a directional mode, detect degradation in performance of any microphone of the microphone set, and switch microphone operation from the directional mode to a safe mode using at least one non-degraded microphone of the microphone set in response to detecting the microphone performance degradation.

Electronic controller circuitry of the system is coupled for thermal demand control of the heat pumps and the thermal zone blowers for operation of the first heat pump during average thermal load and for operation of both heat pumps during greater thermal load.

Abstract: Tobacco is treated to cause its expansion by a process which comprises the steps of subjecting it, in a treatment chamber, to a reduced pressure of not greater than 7 kPa, impregnating the cell structure of the tobacco with isopentane vapour at a temperature in the range of from 70.degree. C. to 100.degree. C. and maintaining the tobacco in contact with the vapour at a pressure of at least 400 kPa, removing excess isopentane vapour from the treatment chamber, contacting the impregnated tobacco with steam to expand the tobacco cell structure, reducing the pressure in the treatment chamber at a rate of at lest 10 kPa/minute, preferably 30 kPa/minute, and then venting the treatment chamber back to atmospheric pressure. The final filling value of the tobacco treated according to this process is directly proportional to the rate at which the pressure in the treatment chamber is reduced following the steam treatment of the tobacco.

Abstract: A hinge (1) for locating between two members which are to be folded together and opened apart, comprises a pair of parallel trunnions (2,3) interconnected by spaced webs (4). Each trunnion has axially-spaced cylindrical portions (5) of larger diameter than coaxially-arranged intermediate cylindrical portions (6). The hinge is made of a stiffly resilient plastics material having self-lubricating properties and is mounted between the members with the trunnions located rotatably in respective moulded sockets in the respective members. The webs (4) pass through openings in the end faces of the members and permit them to move in their own planes as well as to rotate during their movement from folded-together positions, to the positions they occupy when they are opened apart. The hinge provides a tidy, clean appearance to the members where they are hinged together.

The clip is engaged with the slot by being forced upwardly through it, the upper ends of the bulges providing ramp surfaces (12) which flex the arms towards one another to enable their upper ends to pass upwardly through the slot. The lower portions (13) of the bulges (11) provide ramp surfaces (13) which flex the arms towards the plane of neck when the clip is pulled downwards to detach it from the underside of the slot.

Abstract: A furniture leg is provided with means for compensating for uneven floor levels. Such means take the form of a rocker (17") protruding from a cavity in the lower end of the leg. Leaf springs (4") bias the rocker downwardly to a mid-position. Arched pistons (25") on the rocker (17") extend into arched chambers (22") in the leg which intercommunicate with one another through a throttle (23"). The axis of the arched pistons and chambers and closely fitting curved surfaces (5", 6") of the rocker and leg are all centered on the axis about which rocking occurs and which is provided by the engagement of the upper surface of the rocker with a ridge (19") on the socket roof.

Abstract: A multi-part adaptable table comprising self-supporting leg members interconnected into pairs by bearing means with each leg member adapted to support a quadrant or rectangular shaped table top portion and each bearing means adapted to support a further rectangular table top portion. The various elements of the table being arranged such that they can be disassembled one from the other to enable the table to be rearranged into various configurations.
