Queries are performed to one or more emergency alert databases to develop emergency alert notifications. At least some of the emergency alert notifications are filtered responsive to user selected criteria to select one or more filtered emergency alerts. An attention desired indicator is transmitted to a hearing-impaired user device that subscribes to a hearing-impaired relay service supported by the server if the one or more filtered emergency alerts are present. The filtered emergency alerts are transmitted to the hearing-impaired user device in response to a emergency information query from that user device.

Abstract: Apparatuses and methods are disclosed for automatic volume control of an audio stream reproduced by a captioning communication service for use by a call assistant in generating a text transcription of a communication session between a hearing-impaired user and a far-end user. The automatic volume control automatically adjusts a volume of the audio stream reproduced by the captioning communication service responsive to a volume control command identifying which of the far-end voice signal and the near-end voice signal is active at a given time. The system further includes an echo modifier configured to add distortion to an echo portion of the far-end voice signal when generating the audio stream.

Abstract: A method to detect dial tone on a telephone line may include taking samples of incoming audio on a telephone line. The method may also include determining volumes of the samples. The method may further include determining whether the volumes of a threshold number of the samples are at or above a threshold volume. The method may also include, in response to determining that the volumes of a threshold number of the samples are at or above a threshold volume, determining that the incoming audio on the telephone line includes a dial tone.

A method includes determining captions are desired by the hearing-impaired user at a first time to be enabled for display to the communication device during a call, detecting a failed connection to the relay service at a second time, and automatically connecting with the relay service and establishing a new captioning communication session at a third time during the call.

The communication device comprises communication elements, a memory device storing a plurality of sets of training parameters for an echo canceller, and a processor operably coupled with the communication elements and the memory device. The communication elements are configured to receive audio signals from a far end communication device, and to receive text captions corresponding to the audio signals from a relay service for display by the communication device during a call. Each set of training parameters corresponding to a different audio mode for the communication device. The processor is configured to execute an echo canceller by loading a first set of training parameters when a first audio mode is selected, and a second set of training parameters when a second audio mode is selected.
