DEVICES, METHODS, AND SYSTEMS FOR VISUALIZING ELECTROWETTING PATHING USING ELECTROPHORETIC MATERIALS
Publication number: 20250060333Abstract: Electrophoretic visualization devices for interfacing with a processing unit configured to drive electrowetting on dielectric (EWoD) digital microfluidic devices. The visualization devices allow a user to visualize droplet pathing in the microfluidic workspace as well as implementation of magnetic fields and heat. Using the visualization devices, a researcher can test pathing protocols, magnetic engagement, and heating without using an actual digital microfluidic device or chemical reagents.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 13, 2024Publication date: February 20, 2025Inventors: Richard J. PAOLINI, JR., Brian D. BEAN -
Patent number: 12186514Abstract: An active molecule delivery system whereby active molecules can be released on demand and/or a variety of different active molecules can be delivered from the same system and/or different concentrations of active molecules can be delivered from the same system. The invention is well-suited for delivering pharmaceuticals to patients transdermally. In some embodiments, the system includes two separate reservoirs and a mixing area thereby allowing precursors to be mixed immediately before transdermal delivery.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 2022Date of Patent: January 7, 2025Assignee: E Ink CorporationInventors: Richard J. Paolini, Jr., Stephen J. Telfer, Timothy J. O'Malley, Brian D. Bean

Patent number: 12190730Abstract: A parking space management system includes a bistable reflective display, such as an electrophoretic display, which is sunlight-readable and only requires power when the information on the display is updated. One or more detectors are configured to determine the presence of an object within a bounded space, such as a parking space, and communicate that status to the bistable reflective display, thereby causing the bistable reflective display to show the presence of an object within the bounded space to an observer. Such a system is easy to implement and will save drivers' time because they don't have to hunt for a parking spot. Such a system also reduces tailpipe emissions because it is not necessary to drive up and down multiple aisles of cars looking for an open parking spot.Type: GrantFiled: February 24, 2023Date of Patent: January 7, 2025Assignee: E Ink CorporationInventors: Zhen Bao, George G. Harris, Brian D. Bean

Patent number: 12130532Abstract: An electro-optic device comprises in order, an electrically-conductive light-transmissive layer, an electro-optic material layer, an adhesive layer, and a backplane substrate comprising a plurality of pixel electrodes configured to apply an electrical potential between the electrically-conductive light-transmissive layer and the pixel electrodes. An activation region, comprising an identification marker, is located in a layer of the electro-optic device and it emits radiation of a characteristic wavelength upon activation by a stimulus, enabling the identification of the manufacturing source and the manufacturing lot of the electro-optic device and its components. The technology is also relevant for a front plane laminate and a double release sheet, which are useful components for the manufacture of electro-optic devices.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 2023Date of Patent: October 29, 2024Assignee: E Ink CorporationInventors: Stephen J. Telfer, Brian D. Bean, Lynne C. Garone, Simon Pang, Jay William Anseth
