  • Patent number: 5857981
Abstract: A biopsy instrument including a tissue penetrating device including an elongate holder and a cutting member arranged at an end thereof for penetrating tissue and a specimen retaining and retrieval device detachably connected to the holder for receiving and retaining a specimen of tissue cut by the cutting member. The specimen retaining and retrieval device preferably has a handle having a contoured, outer surface substantially corresponding to the shape of a thumb and which is roughened. Also, preferably the tissue penetrating device includes a hand grip section arranged at an end of the holder opposite to the end at which the cutting member is arranged and a middle section arranged between the hand grip section and the cutting member, the middle section being substantially cylindrical and having friction grip enhancing means, i.e., grooves arranged on an outer peripheral surface in a direction substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the tissue penetrating device.

  • Patent number: 5786752
Abstract: A vehicle signaling method and device for alerting drivers approaching from a rear of the vehicle including at least one light emitting signal arranged on an element of the vehicle facing rearward, a velocity measurement sensor for measuring an absolute velocity of the vehicle and a control unit coupled to the velocity measurement sensor for determining if the measured absolute velocity is greater than a threshold velocity. In one embodiment, there is a manual light activation unit which is connected to the control unit and the light emitting signal(s). The manual light activation unit is controlled by the control unit to enable the light emitting signal(s) to be activated only if the measured absolute velocity is less than the threshold velocity.

  • Patent number: 5586168
Abstract: Cellular telephone apparatus having at least two pieces that are separated or separable such that the cellular antenna may be situated at a distance from the user during use. The cellular telephone apparatus has a cellular antenna which communicates with the user microphone and speaker via either a cordless phone type radio link or a cord. High frequency, electromagnetic radiation emitted from the cellular antenna is thereby substantially diminished by the time it reaches the phone user.

  • Patent number: 5444778
Abstract: Cellular telephone apparatus comprise a portable carrying case, such as a conventional attache case to provide the utility of a business briefcase, a cellular telephone base unit situated within an interior space of the carrying case, an antenna coupled to the base unit, a hand-held receiver, and either a cable or radio link coupling the base unit and hand-held receiver with each other so that the receiver is positionable during use at a position which is spaced away from the antenna which is situated at the carrying case. High frequency, electromagnetic radiation emitted from the antenna is substantially attenuated by the time it reaches the user of the cellular telephone.

  • Patent number: 5267572
Abstract: A biopsy instrument combines a tissue penetrating device including a cutting member with a specimen retaining and retrieval device. The specimen retaining and retrieval device is detachably connected to the tissue penetrating device and operates, after the cutting member has penetrated into tissue, to separate a specimen of tissue enclosed by the cutting member from surrounding tissue. The specimen retaining and retrieval device can then, while retaining the specimen therein, be detached from the tissue penetrating device and transferred to a desired location such as a vial containing preservative solution for the specimen.

  • Patent number: RE29052
Abstract: A roll of toilet paper which has web portions where the web is folded upon itself and provided with an inner film of cleansing composition and an outer barrier layer so that the film of cleansing composition cannot spread through the convolutions of the roll while at the same time the folded web portions will become unfolded during unwinding of the roll to expose the cleansing composition. After the film of cleansing composition and barrier layer are respectively deposited at opposite faces of the web at preselected areas therealong the web is folded upon itself at the areas where the film of cleansing composition is located and then the film of cleansing composition at each folded web portion is frozen to retain each web portion in its folded condition during winding of the web into a roll.
