  • Publication number: 20230385236
Abstract: Examples of the present disclosure describe systems and methods for maintaining stale files to minimize computing costs. In examples, a determination is made regarding whether a hydrated file is eligible to remain temporarily stale. If the hydrated file is determined to be eligible to remain temporarily stale, the hydrated file is caused to remain stale at a time when a content refresh for the hydrated file is pending. While the hydrated file remains stale, a set of rules for determining whether the hydrated file should be refreshed is evaluated. If, based on the set of rules, it is determined that the hydrated file should be refreshed, the hydrated file is refreshed.

  • Patent number: 10747729
Abstract: Device-specific chunked hash size tuning to maximize synchronization throughput is described. A synchronization client application or similar program may employ hashing to detect changes to content of remotely stored files and synchronize those (as opposed to synchronizing all files, for example). Instead of using static hash chunk sizes for all client applications of a cloud storage service, the synchronization client application may determine the size of hash buffer by baselining throughput of hashing on each synchronization device and finding the number of bytes hashed in a given amount of time. Thus, hash chunk size may be optimized on a machine by machine basis.

  • Patent number: 8974322
Abstract: A golf tee has a head contoured to balance a golf ball thereon, a point for insertion into a ground surface, and a stem joining the head to the point, the stem providing an enlarged medial portion relative to a proximal portion near the head and a distal portion near the point. The stem has a continuous curvature between the head and the point and joins the head to the point such that the point inserts into the ground surface at an angle that facilities ejection of the tee from the ground surface when the curvature is placed outward relative to a direction of a ball strike force.

  • Patent number: 8487523
Abstract: A reduced wattage gas discharge lamp and method of making same. The gas discharge lamp includes a light transmissive envelope with an inner surface, having a light scattering reflective layer disposed thereon. A phosphor layer is coated on an inner surface of the light scattering reflective layer. A discharge-sustaining gaseous mixture is retained inside the light-transmissive envelope. The discharge-sustaining gaseous mixture includes at least 88% argon, by volume, at a low pressure. An electrode is located within the light-transmissive envelope. The electrode is capable of providing an electric discharge to trigger a reaction within the light-transmissive envelope to cause the lamp to emit light. The remainder of the discharge-sustaining gaseous mixture is substantially neon, at a low pressure. The low pressure is about 3.6 Torr.

  • Patent number: 4725998
Abstract: A completely automatic warning ashtray for smokers is disclosed. The ashtray is responsive to the natural motions of a smoker, and indicates to the smoker when it is time to dispose of accumulated ash on a lit cigarette. Because of its automatic operation, the user need not operate any manual controls in order to accrue the advantages of the invention's use. In addition, the ashtray may be provided with a visual indicating means which indicates to the user that a timing cycle is in progress, and a time of day clock may also be visible from the outside of the ashtray.

  • Patent number: 4683946
Abstract: A self contained vehicle is disclosed for the installation of a endless belt type oil well evacuation system, and for the modification of previously installed systems. The vehicle is provided with lifting means and rotational supply means for the endless belt in order to facilitate the feeding out and taking in of the belt material. The rotational supply means is provided with an automatic tension adjustment mechanism to avoid excess slack in handling the endless belt. A transverse adjustment mechanism is also provided to allow the endless belt to be lined up with the well head. Also disclosed is a drive unit to provide means for holding and driving the endless belt while installing or modifying the evacuation system. The belt is provided with a number of cups or transport units which are essentially three sided. One side of the cup is preferably soft and pliable in order to facilitate the evacuation of the cup.

  • Patent number: 4552220
Abstract: A system for evacuating sand, paraffin, and other particulate matter from an oil well, while simultaneously lifting the oil to the surface and stimulating its rate of production, comprises a series of transport units attached to an endless belt. The belt is positively driven between a wellhead station at the surface and a downhole module which is self centering within the well casing, thereby avoiding damage and wear to the casing. Preferably, the belt comprises a roller chain which enables the depth and rate of production of the evacuation system to be easily adjusted. The transport units are replaceably mounted on the belt and are specially designed to agitate and accumulate the particulate member in the oil well.
