Patent number: 10279608Abstract: In wide format web printing the loading of a new web medium is a cumbersome process, requiring the operator to raise a very wide flexible web from the supply roll up to the print surface. The present invention provides a simple apparatus to aid in the manual loading process. The web transport assembly of the apparatus comprises a supply unit arranged for supplying the web from a media roll to a transport path and a pick-up device comprising a pick-up surface and a holding mechanism configured for releasably holding a leading edge section of the web onto the pick-up surface, wherein the pick-up device is moveable between a first position near the supply unit for attaching the leading edge section and a second position near the print surface. The leading edge section is moved upwards towards the print surface while held by the holding mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: September 20, 2017Date of Patent: May 7, 2019Assignee: OCÉ HOLDING B.V.Inventors: Romeo Musete, Michael Nell, Chad A. Koehn, Anne A. Wind, Brian D. Otter

Patent number: 9862213Abstract: An inkjet printing apparatus includes an inkjet print head arranged to be moveable in a direction of movement along a guiding assembly. The guiding assembly includes a support structure; a strip mounted on the support structure, the strip being rigidly straight in a first direction substantially perpendicular to the direction of movement and mounted in such way that a straightness in the direction of movement is provided; and an air bearing system operatively coupled to the strip. The strip extends in a vertical plane, the vertical plane being substantially parallel to the direction of movement and being substantially parallel to the first direction. The air bearing system is configured to control a position of the inkjet print head in a horizontal plane relative to the strip during movement of the print head in the direction of movement, the horizontal plane being substantially perpendicular to the vertical plane.Type: GrantFiled: May 25, 2016Date of Patent: January 9, 2018Assignee: OCE-TECHNOLOGIES B.V.Inventors: Brandon Rigio, Brian D. Otter, Michael P. Hoy

Patent number: 9802431Abstract: A print-head assembly for a printing apparatus includes: a carriage with a frame configured to be supported on a gantry for movement in a travel direction over a print surface; a print-head unit having one or more print heads mounted on the carriage; and an impact damping device mounted on an end region of the carriage in the travel direction, wherein an impact member of the damping device presents a contact surface in the travel direction. The impact member is mounted to the carriage frame for resilient movement over a buffer distance substantially parallel to the travel direction between a first extended position and a second retracted position for absorbing or damping an impact during movement of the carriage in the travel direction.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 2016Date of Patent: October 31, 2017Assignee: OCÉ HOLDING B.V.Inventors: Brian D. Otter, Maarten J. H. Elferink, Hadylee H. Wan

Patent number: 7261408Abstract: A printing device and method containing a carriage supporting print heads with a plurality of discharging elements to the image-wise forming of image dots of a marking substance on an a print medium, wherein the carriage is moveable in reciprocation in a main scanning direction and is also relatively displaceable with respect to the print medium in the sub scanning direction. Moreover, at least one radiation source is provided for irradiating the image dots of marking substance. The radiation source is designed such that the print medium with the dots formed thereon receives, in a traverse of the radiation source, a radiation dose which increases towards an edge of the dimension in the sub scanning direction of the area irradiated by the radiation source in the traverse.Type: GrantFiled: August 20, 2004Date of Patent: August 28, 2007Assignee: OCE Display Graphics SystemsInventor: Brian D.
