    Abstract: A flashing strip for placement at an intersection between a wall and an adjacent roof against which a plurality of shingles are to be laid, the flashing strip comprising an elongated back panel from which a plurality of flashing tabs extend outward. The flashing tabs are disposed at an angle to the axis and in substantially parallel planes to one another. During use, the elongated back panel is disposed against and coupled to the wall at the intersection, and shingles are then placed along the flashing tabs during the roofing process. The flashing strip may also include a ledge and/or a decorative molding above the flashing tabs. The flashing strips may be placed end to end to form a continuous flashing strip that may be installed before the placement of siding or the like on the wall. The siding may be installed by positioning the siding against the ledge before or after placement of the singles.

    Abstract: A retractable syringe includes a barrel, one end of which comprises a mounting collar. A needle carrier is releasably mounted within the collar and releaseably supports a needle cartridge. A hypodermic needle is mounted within the cartridge. A sheath attaches at one end of the cartridge and at the other end of the collar. A plunger is telescoped into the barrel and includes a piston sealingly engaging the barrel. The piston includes a latch for engaging the carrier and releasing it from the collar. The piston and carrier also include an anti-remount mechanism preventing the carrier from being reengaged into the collar. To preform this, a separate tool is used to insert the carrier into the collar. The plunger further includes surfaces to displace fluid as the piston is forced toward the proximal end of the barrel to displace fluid to reduce squirt. A cap is also provided to initially seal off the proximal end of the barrel and after usage to form a seal by engaging teeth within the proximal end of the barrel.

    Abstract: An infuser apparatus for the delivery of fluid at accurate and controlled rates of flow comprising a housing, a deformable member, inlet means and outlet means. Fluid is introduced through the inlet means forcing the deformable member to bend away from its normal position and to generate a pressure force against the fluid introduced. When the outlet means is opened, the fluid is expelled by means of the deformable member returning to its normal position. The infuser apparatus may expel the fluid at either a constant or at a varied and controlled rate depending on the configuration of the deformable member. Further, multiple infusers may be coupled together in a fluid delivery system.

    Abstract: A cartridge 444, 644, 744 is adapted for mounting upon a receptacle 442, 642 in a parenterial fluid administration set 420 for delivering a drug or other beneficial agent to a patient. The cartridge 444, 644, 744 includes a beneficial agent-containing chamber 606 slidable from a first, pre-use position to a second, post-use position. The cartridge includes a hollow tube 496 in which the chamber 606 is at least partially mounted. At least one cannula 500 is mounted to the hollow tube and extends opposite the chamber. A protective cover or cap 530 maintains a chamber protective position that prevents inadvertent movement of the chamber that would accidentally engage the cartridge chamber with a flow path member, such as the cannula. The cover is removed in order to engage the chamber.

    Abstract: A tubular fluid transfer device is operative by itself to seal the end of a conduit. By coupling two of the devices together, a fluid path can be selectively established between two conduits by applying heat energy. The device includes a generally planar surface having a meltable region. The generally planar surface of one device is slidable against the generally planar surface of another one of the devices to bring the meltable regions into registration. The device includes a coupling mechanism which guides the meltable regions into the desired alignment as registration occurs. Furthermore, as the meltable regions register, the coupling mechanism generates forces which bias the meltable regions into intimate contact. The coupling mechanism thereafter releasably retains the devices in this snug interlocked relationship, so that the energy can be applied to jointly heat the meltable regions and melt open a fluid path between the two devices.

    Abstract: Novel ratchet loadbinder apparatus utilizing a spring-biased single pawl member carried within a slotted cam formed on the loadbinder's handle, the pawl member being selectively and reversibly positioned in one of two operating positions formed by bearing recesses at both ends of the slotted cam, such selective placement depending upon the desired direction of movement of an associated screw-threaded turnbuckle barrel. The loadbinder's handle carries a spring member utilized to maintain the pawl member in its preselected position during indexing handle movements. During working stroke handle movements, the pawl member is forcibly interposed between the selected bearing recess on the handle and an associated ratchet gear rigidly mounted on the threaded barrel.
