  • Patent number: 6627442
Abstract: The present invention provides methods, as well as compositions related thereto, for the efficient transduction of cells using viral vectors. The efficiency of transduction is increased by contacting the cell to be transduced with one or more molecules that bind the cell surface. Contact with a cell surface binding molecule may occur before, after, or simultaneously with contact between the viral vector and the cell. The transduced vectors may be constructed to express a gene of interest, permitting the transduced cells to be used as therapeutic and prophylactic agents.

  • Publication number: 20030167702
Abstract: A building structure (10 or 10′) has a wall (16) including a plurality of wall elements (12 or 12′). Each wall element is connected to a plurality of other wall elements so as to form the wall. Each wall element includes a connecting means for connecting the adjacent wall elements together to form the wall. The wall is formed at least three consecutively connected rings (15 or 15 and 17) of interlocking wall elements. Each of the wall elements in each ring being of the same size. Each of the wall elements in a first ring of the consecutively connecting rings being larger than the wall elements of a second ring of the consecutively connected rings and each of the elements in the second ring being larger than the wall elements of a third ring of the consecutively connected rings.

  • Patent number: 6483805
Abstract: A method of monitoring telecommunications network traffic comprising the steps of: receiving a packet stream comprising packets each identified as belonging to one of at least three classes; calculating a difference between the numbers of packets received identified as belonging to a first and a second of said classes; and deriving a measure of traffic load on the network responsive to said difference. The invention also relates to a method for admission control based on the above method of monitoring and a method for overcoming admission control avoidance. It also relates to apparatus embodying these methods.

  • Patent number: 6465409
Abstract: The invention concerns an aqueous biocide system comprising: at least one water-soluble or water-dispersible biocidal agent, and at least a polyorganosiloxane with water-soluble or water-dispersible functions. The invention also concerns the use of the system for disinfecting hard surfaces, or a method for disinfecting hard surfaces using the system, with controlled release of the biocide when contacted with an aqueous medium of a hard surface whereon the aqueous medium has been deposited and dried.

  • Publication number: 20020129951
Abstract: An electrically continuous, grounded conformal EMI protective shield and methods for applying same directly to the surfaces of a printed circuit board. The EMI shield adheres and conforms to the surface of the components and printed wiring board. The shield takes the shape of the covered surfaces while adding little to the dimensions of the surfaces. The EMI shield includes low viscosity, high adherence conductive and dielectric coatings each of which can be applied in one or more layers using conventional spray techniques. The conductive coating prevents substantially all electromagnetic emissions generated by the shielded components from emanating beyond the conformal coating. The dielectric coating is initially applied to selected locations of the printed circuit board so as to be interposed between the conductive coating and the printed circuit board, preventing the conductive coating from electrically contacting selected components and printed wiring board regions.

  • Patent number: 6179991
Abstract: A machine and process for treating contaminated water having a chamber with at least two electrodes having voltages of different polarities and made of metals containing multivalent salts; an inlet port for introduction of untreated contaminated water to the chamber, wherein the water is treated by passing over the electrodes; an outlet port for outputting the treated water from the chamber; and one or more scraper blades in close proximity with the electrodes wherein the blades are capable of movement along the length of the electrodes to remove accumulated debris. A preferred embodiment includes electrodes are made of noble elements and the scraper is affixed in close proximity to the electrode for removal of debris. Another preferred embodiment includes having the electrodes oriented along a vertical flow of the water. Another preferred embodiment includes a drum shaped electrode that rotates about a shaft while it facilitates cleaning of the electrodes. The cleaning motion is motor driven.

  • Patent number: 6109615
Abstract: An oil seal for a locking differential mechanism. The seal assembly includes a generally flat plate with a first generally circular oil seal adjacent an outer margin of the flat plate, a circular inner margin defining an opening in the flat plate with a second oil seal surrounding the inner margin, an oil outlet opening lying in an otherwise imperforate area between the first and second margins, and a cover for the flat plate with the cover and plate defining between them a passage for oil extending from a point radially outside the first seal to at least a point adjacent the oil outlet. The seal takes in a supply of oil from the differential sump and supplies it through the oil outlet to a multi-plate clutch which is activated only when the two axles undergo rotation relative to each other and thereby actuate a Gerotor type oil pump.

  • Patent number: 5636466
Abstract: An animal decoy apparatus includes a housing assembly which simulates an animal body. A leg assembly is partially housed within the housing assembly and partially extends outside of the housing assembly. A leg retraction and extension assembly is housed within the housing assembly and is connected between the housing assembly and the leg assembly. A leg-controlling wave receiver assembly is housed with the housing assembly and is connected to the leg retraction and extension assembly. The leg-controlling wave receiver assembly controls the leg retraction and extension assembly. A manually operated wave transmitter assembly is located outside of the housing assembly. The wave transmitter assembly transmits a control signal that is received by the leg-controlling wave receiver assembly. The housing assembly simulates a body of a water fowl. A pair of upper appendages are connected to the housing assembly. The upper appendages extend outward from the housing assembly.

  • Patent number: 5094088
Abstract: A python for maintaining the drinking liquid flowing in lines therein at a predetermined temperature has a drinking liquid delivery line adapted to deliver drinking liquid, coolant tubes adapted to carry coolant and insulator tubing arranged in that order concentrically outwardly. The central drinking liquid delivery line consists of a central drinking liquid tube surrounded by secondary drinking liquid tubes. The central drinking liquid delivery line is in thermal contact with and surrounded by the coolant tubes. The coolant tubes are surrounded by insulator tubing in such a way as to restrict the free movement of both the drinking liquid delivery line and coolant tubes. The drinking liquid is thereby maintained at a predetermined temperature by the temperature of the coolant and the effect of the above-mentioned concentric arrangement of drinking liquid delivery line, coolant tubes and insulator tubing.

  • Patent number: 4672758
Abstract: One section (1) of a rectangular frame is releasably secured to the remainder of the frame, in which a backing board (7) is located. When the device is fixed to a site location, the said one section (1) remains removable without damaging the site location, so as to allow a sheet (8) of artwork to be inserted into the frame in a direction parallel to the backing board (7). The artwork sheet (8) projects at least partly beyond the edge of the backing board (7) adjacent the removable section (1) so as to be grippable to facilitate removal of the artwork sheet (8).
