Publication number: 20240341793Abstract: The embodiments described herein can be used in a variety of grasping, cutting, and manipulating operations. In some embodiments, an apparatus includes a first joint member, a second joint member, and a flexure. The first joint member includes a first connection portion and a contact surface. The second joint member including a second connection portion. A first end portion of the flexure is coupled to the first connection portion, and a second end portion of the flexure is coupled to the second connection portion. The flexure is configured to deform elastically when the first joint member and the second joint member move from a first configuration to a second configuration. When in the first configuration, the central portion of the flexure is spaced apart from the contact portion. When in the second configuration, the central portion of the flexure contacting the contact portion.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 21, 2024Publication date: October 17, 2024Applicant: Intuitive Surgical Operations, Inc.Inventors: Jason DEARDEN, Clayton GRAMES, Larry L. HOWELL, Brian D. JENSEN, Spencer P. MAGLEBY

Publication number: 20230390570Abstract: A stimulation device includes a first transmitting coil and a drive circuit electrically coupled to the first transmitting coil and configured to drive the first transmitting coil. The first transmitting coil is configured, when the device is in proximity to a person's ear and the first transmitting coil is driven with a time-varying electric current providable by the drive circuit, to generate at least part of a magnetic field providing a time-varying magnetic flux across an auricular branch of a Vagus Nerve (ABVN) sufficient to activate the ABVN.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 16, 2023Publication date: December 7, 2023Inventors: Brian Michael Shelton, Neil Talbot, Brian Dearden

Publication number: 20230241393Abstract: An electrode lead comprises an electrically insulative cuff body and at least three axially aligned electrode contacts circumferentially disposed along the inner surface of the cuff body when in the furled state. The electrode contacts may be circumferentially disposed around a nerve, and an electrical pulse train may be delivered to the electrode contacts thereby stimulating the nerve to treat obstructive sleep apnea. The electrical pulse train may be one that pre-conditions peripherally located nerve fascicles to not be stimulated, while stimulating centrally located nerve fascicles. A feedback mechanism can be used to titrate electrode contacts and electrical pulse train to the patient. A sensor that is affixed to the case of a neurostimulator can be used to measure physiological artifacts of respiration, and a motion detector can be used to sense tapping of the neurostimulator to toggle the neurostimulator between an ON position and an OFF position.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 6, 2023Publication date: August 3, 2023Applicant: THE ALFRED E. MANN FOUNDATION FOR SCIENTIFIC RESEARCHInventors: Harshit Suri, Joseph L. Calderon, Gregory Frederick Molnar, George S. Patent number: 3976948Abstract: A frequency sensitive switching arrangement is arranged to cause a bistable switching arrangement to produce an output signal at a first or second level depending whether the pulse rate is below a lower rate or above a higher rate with hysteresis preventing change of level between the rates. The bistable switch is arranged to give an output signal at a first or second level in dependence on whether an input pulse is applied to a first or second input. A first monostable element having a first preset unstable period opens a gate to permit pulses to be applied to the second input for the first unstable period and a second monostable element having a second preset unstable period, longer than the first, closes a gate to prevent pulses from being applied to the first input terminal for the second unstable period. Any input pulses occurring between the end of first and second periods is not applied to either terminal and the output level remains as previously.Type: GrantFiled: January 3, 1975Date of Patent: August 24, 1976Assignee: Ferranti LimitedInventors: Brian Dearden, Geoffrey Shepherd
