Patent number: 10957569Abstract: An improved automated material handling system that allows an overhead hoist supported by a suspended track to access Work-In-Process (WIP) parts from storage locations beside the track. The automated material handling system includes an overhead hoist transport vehicle for transporting an overhead hoist on a suspended track, and one or more storage bins for storing WIP parts located beside the track. Each storage bin is either a movable shelf or a fixed shelf. To access a WIP part from a selected shelf, the overhead hoist transport vehicle moves along the suspended track to a position at the side of the shelf. Next, the movable shelf moves to a position underneath the overhead hoist. Alternatively, overhead hoist moves to a position above the fixed shelf. The overhead hoist is then operated to pick a desired WIP part directly from the shelf, or to place one or more WIP parts directly to the shelf.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 2003Date of Patent: March 23, 2021Assignee: Murata Machinery Ltd.Inventors: Jeffrey T. Publication number: 20190117447Abstract: The field of the invention relates generally to devices and methods for controlling the temperature of a human or non-human body. More specifically, the field of the invention may relate to wearable devices, which may be worn by a subject, which human or non-human, wherein the wearable device is in thermal communication with a portion of the subject's body containing brown adipose tissue and wherein the wearable device comprises a means for providing a constant or near constant temperature to the subject's body and therefore controls the temperature of the subject's body, by using a phase change material. The phase material transitions state at a predetermined temperature which may be higher or lower than the subject's exterior body temperature. The device and method are usable to control temperature-related effects of menopause, post menopause and drug induced thermoregulatory symptoms such as night sweats, hot flashes and sleep disturbance.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 5, 2017Publication date: April 25, 2019Inventors: Brian Doherty, Faiz Chowdhury, David L. Publication number: 20170119574Abstract: In accordance with one embodiment of the present invention, the invention comprises a pliable enclosure containing a Phase Change Material (PCM) that maintains a nearly constant predetermined temperature while transmitting heat during phase change. The predetermined temperature is maintained which the PCM absorbs heat from the body of the patient, thus maintain the patient's body temperature at a nearly constant predetermined temperature for as long as the PCM material is transitioning phase. The pliable enclosure, which in an embodiment forms an enclosed volume, may be comprised of a shell which contains the PCM. The shell may be fabricated from polyethylene, polyurethane, or any other pliable material and may further comprise graphene covering on at least one of its surfaces to provide a tough exterior that is resistant to puncture by, for example, hypodermic needles, suture needles, scalpels, or other sharp instruments.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 4, 2016Publication date: May 4, 2017Applicant: Imanano, Inc.Inventors: Brian Doherty, Faiz Chowdhury

Publication number: 20120079647Abstract: An impact absorbing protective garment is provided, for wearing about the torso of a body, such as a baseball umpire, that comprises three layers. There is an outer shell layer comprised of a plurality of plate elements that are generally stiff, shock-resistant lightweight material, that are fastened to a middle layer. The middle layer is in the form of a flexible pad having various components, and that provides an intermediate thickness of cushioning material inside the outer shell layer. There is an inner layer carried by the middle layer that comprises a plurality of cells of phase change material, with the various cells being separated from each other by sealing zones. Upon sufficient impact the individual cells can communicate through small pores in the sealing zones or when the sealing zones rupture under impact pressure, to assist in impact absorption.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 5, 2011Publication date: April 5, 2012Inventors: Brian DOHERTY, Erby J. Publication number: 20110239346Abstract: A constant or controlled temperature microclimate protective system capable of providing either cooling or heating. Such a system may be used alone or in combination with protective armor without degrading the force impact integrity of the protective system. When used alone, the microclimate system of the present invention may be constructed into a garment configuration for personal use or a sleeve-type configuration for use with one or more electronic devices. When used in combination, the microclimate system may be integrally incorporated into a protective armor system, releasably attached or held within the protective armor system by means including but not limited to a pocket or pouch, or worn as a separate element underneath a protective armor system. The microclimate system may comprise a plurality of cells containing phase change material providing one or more transition temperature points while further assisting in impact shock attenuation.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 5, 2011Publication date: October 6, 2011Inventors: Brian Doherty, Erby J. Publication number: 20070188481Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for optimizing the transmission of video configuration data in a system comprising a host computer and a display monitor. The invention comprises a wireless video source adapter connected to the host computer and a wireless video sink adapter connected to the monitor. Upon system startup, the video sink adapter acquires EDID information from the monitor and transmits it to the video source adapter, which does not activate its connection and indicate its presence to the host computer until after receiving the EDID information. The video source adapter then supplies the EDID information to the host computer in response to EDID requests from the computer. In this manner, the video source adapter acts as a virtual proxy for the display monitor from the point of the view of the host computer. The host computer then uses the EDID information to configure its video signal to match the parameters of the display monitor.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 10, 2006Publication date: August 16, 2007Inventors: Gregory Christison, Brian Doherty, John Sarallo, Sidney Schrum
