  • Patent number: 6704717
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and article of manufacture for performing data mining applications in a relational database management system. At least one analytic algorithm for enhanced back-propagation neural network processing is performed by a computer, wherein the analytic algorithm for enhanced back-propagation neural network processing includes SQL statements performed by the relational database management system directly against the relational database and programmatic iteration. The analytic algorithm for enhanced back-propagation neural network processing operates on data in the relational database that has been partitioned into training, testing and validation data sets. The analytic algorithm for enhanced back-propagation neural network processing maps the data in the training data sets to nodes in the neural network wherein the data is processed as it moves from an input node of the neural network through a hidden node of the neural network to an output node of the neural network.

  • Patent number: 6631361
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and article of manufacture for providing a description of logic used in determining an outcome based on automatic processing of data is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of hierarchically applying a series of decision criteria to the data to arrive at the outcome, while recording a rule determined from application of each decision criteria to the data, and retrieving the recorded rules. The article of manufacture comprises a data storage device tangibly embodying instructions to perform the method steps outlined above, and the apparatus for performing the method steps.

Inventors: Kenneth W. O'Flaherty, Brian Don Tate
  • Patent number: 6611829
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and article of manufacture for performing data mining applications in a relational database management system. An analytic algorithm for association is performed by the relational database management system to measure one or more associations between a plurality of items in a stream of transaction data stored in the relational database, wherein the analytic algorithm for association creates at least one analytic model within an analytic logical data model from data residing in the relational database.

  • Patent number: 6549910
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and article of manufacture for performing data mining applications in a massively parallel relational database management system. A scalable data mining function comprising an automated, adaptive, histogram bin data description assist function is instantiated and parameterized via an analytic application programming interface (API). The automated, adaptive, histogram bin data description assist function comprises a query that is performed directly within the relational database management system, wherein the automated, adaptive, histogram bin data description assist function counts a number of occurrences of values in value ranges for a numeric data element in a column of a table stored in the relational database.

  • Patent number: 6438552
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and article of manufacture for performing data mining applications in a massively parallel relational database management system. A scalable data mining function comprising an automated histogram bin data derivation assist function is instantiated and parameterized via an analytic application programming interface (API). The automated histogram bin data derivation assist function comprises a query that is performed directly within the relational database management system, wherein the automated histogram bin data derivation assist function derives a new data element in the relational database based on a relation of a particular value of another data element to that element's overall distribution in the relational database.
