  • Patent number: 9582651
Abstract: A method, system and computer program product are provided for implementing block extent granularity authorization processing for a Coherent Accelerator Processor Interface (CAPI) adapter. An Application Client requests authorization to a File from a system processor file system. The file system validates the request, determines the location of each Extent that comprises the File, and requests authorization to each Extent from a System CAPI Authorization manager. The System CAPI Authorization manager requests the CAPI Client manager to assign a Child Client ID and CAPI Server Register range to the requesting Application Client and requests a previously authorized CAPI Parent Client to authorize the Child ID to the list of Extents. The CAPI Parent Client sends a Create Authorizations command to the CAPI Adapter via the Parent's CAPI Server Registers.

  • Publication number: 20160148004
Abstract: A method, system and computer program product are provided for implementing block extent granularity authorization command flow processing for a Coherent Accelerator Processor Interface (CAPI) adapter. An Application Client builds a command including start LBA and number of LBAs and Child Authorization Handle. The Application Client sends the command directly to the CAPI Adapter via the Application Clients CAPI Server Registers assigned to the specific Application Client. The CAPI adapter validate that the requesting Client is authorized to perform the command using the Authorization Handle and the receiving CAPI Server Register address. The CAPI Adapter executes the validated command and sends completion back to the Application Client.

  • Publication number: 20160148005
Abstract: A method, system and computer program product are provided for implementing and processing a block extent granularity authorization mechanism for a Coherent Accelerator Processor Interface (CAPI) adapter. The CAPI adapter generates an authorization table with multiple authorization entries, each authorization entry including an Authorization Handle with CAPI server registers identification (ID) including a start Logical Block Address of the extent and range of Logical Block Addresses for each extent. When a command is received an authentication process uses the Authorization Handle contained in the received command and an Authorization Entry in the Authorization Table indexed by the Authorization Handle to authenticate the received command to prevent unauthorized data access.

  • Patent number: 8954685
Abstract: A method, computer program product and computer system for virtualizing an SAS storage adapter, so as to allow logical partitions of a computer system to share a storage device. The method, computer program product and computer system includes assigning a logical storage adapter to an operating system of each of the logical partitions; creating a mapping from each of the logical partitions to a set of logical blocks in the storage device; and configuring the logical storage adapter using a hypervisor, so that a select partition can access a select set of logical blocks that the select partition is allowed to access.

  • Patent number: 8886881
Abstract: A method and controller for implementing storage adapter performance optimization with parity update footprint mirroring between dual adapters minimizing firmware operations, and a design structure on which the subject controller circuit resides are provided. Each of a first controller and a second controller includes a plurality of hardware engines, a control store configured to store parity update footprint (PUFP) data; a data store; and a nonvolatile random access memory (NVRAM). One controller operates in a first initiator mode for transferring PUFP data to the other controller operating in a target mode. Respective initiator hardware engines transfers PUFP data from the initiator control store, selectively updating PUFP data, and writing PUFP data to the initiator data store and to the initiator NVRAM, and simultaneously transmitting PUFP data to the other controller. Respective target hardware engines write PUFP data to the target data store and the target NVRAM, eliminating firmware operations.

  • Patent number: 8868828
Abstract: A method and controller for implementing storage adapter performance optimization with cache data and cache directory mirroring between dual adapters minimizing firmware operations, and a design structure on which the subject controller circuit resides are provided. One of the first controller or the second controller operates in a first initiator mode includes firmware to set up an initiator write operation building a data frame for transferring data and a respective cache line (CL) for each page index to the other controller operating in a second target mode. Respective initiator hardware engines transfers data, reading CLs from an initiator control store, and writing updated CLs to an initiator data store, and simultaneously sends data and updated CLs to the other controller. Respective target hardware engines write data and updated CLs to the target data store, eliminating firmware operations of the controller operating in the second target mode.
