Patent number: 9822501Abstract: A dual arm barrier assembly comprising spaced-apart stanchions and a pair of barrier arms pivotally connected to a first stanchion for movement between closed and open positions. The barrier arms have distal end portions immediately adjacent to and out of engagement with the second stanchion when in the closed position during normal operation and when the vehicle is out of engagement with the barrier arms. The first barrier arm in the closed position is at a height corresponding to vehicle's windshield, and the second barrier arm in the closed position is below the first barrier arm and is at a height corresponding approximately to the vehicle's body or frame. The second stanchion engages the barrier arms only when the vehicle presses against barrier arms, thereby securely retaining the barrier arms in the closed position.Type: GrantFiled: March 9, 2015Date of Patent: November 21, 2017Assignee: Oculus VR, LLCInventors: David Younce, Brian G. DeNault, Steven A. Carlsen

Publication number: 20170016264Abstract: A linear gate drive assembly with a drive rail connectable to a gate panel. The drive rail has a first drive surface. A linear drive portion is coupled to the first drive surface and has teeth thereon with a first rolling tooth profile. The linear drive portion defines a toothed second drive surface. Dive motors are pivotally coupled to a support structure. A first drive wheel is attached to one drive motor and engages the first drive surface to impart an axial drive force on the drive rail. A second drive wheel is attached to another drive motor and engages the second drive surface. The second drive wheel has second teeth that mate with the first teeth and that define a second rolling tooth profile that substantially corresponds to the first rolling tooth profile. Rotation of the second drive wheel imparts axial and normal forces via a rolling teeth interface the mating teeth for moving the drive rail and the gate panel.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 16, 2016Publication date: January 19, 2017Applicant: Hy-Security Gate, Inc.Inventors: David Younce, Geoffrey M. Pate, Brian G. DeNault, Steven A. Carlsen

Patent number: 8341889Abstract: The present disclosure relates generally to barrier assemblies, and more particularly, to the coupling of a barrier operator to the barrier that the operator is to move. In one embodiment, a barrier operator coupling includes a wedge member that is fixedly attached to an output shaft of the barrier operator. A housing is brought to bear against a wedge member, and an adjustment device is used to maintain the force between the wedge member and the housing.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 2009Date of Patent: January 1, 2013Assignee: Hy-Security Gate, Inc.Inventors: James Faulkner, Steven A. Carlsen, Keith A. Mullins, Brian G. Denault

Patent number: 6194851Abstract: A barrier operator moves a movable barrier using a motive source having a movable member, a station, and first and second flexible members. The station includes a drive system operatively coupled to the movable member of the motive source. The drive system includes input and output members. The first and second flexible members each have first and second ends and a portion extending from the station. The first ends of each flexible members are operatively coupled to the movable barrier and the second ends of each of the flexible members are operatively coupled to the output drive system member of the station. Aspects include the first and second flexible members being cable or wire. Other aspects include the output drive system member of the station being a spool. The drive system further includes a gear box operatively coupled to the spool. Other aspects include the movable barrier being a gate or door.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 1999Date of Patent: February 27, 2001Assignee: Hy-Security Gate, Inc.Inventors: Brian G. Denault, Gerald N. O'Berto, Scott A. Crowner
