    Abstract: A method of monitoring energy consumption includes steps of establishing an energy budget for a future time period, receiving device information for a plurality of electrical devices and associating the device information with the energy budget, periodically measuring electrical usage from the plurality of electrical devices, projecting future energy consumption for the future time period based on the measured electrical usage, comparing the projected future energy consumption to the energy budget, and if the projected future energy consumption deviates from the energy budget, automatically generating an alert. The projected future energy consumption can take into account various factors such as energy available from non-grid sources; weather forecasts; battery storage; and historical data. A system employing the method can automatically control devices to bring predicted consumption within the budget.

The system further includes an interactive voice recognition (“IVR”) system and mobile interfaces for health data collection and transmission via direction communication with the patient. According to embodiments, with the information received from the patient monitoring system, one or more scored indicative of a patient's health status is calculated. The scores are compared to threshold values and, based on the comparisons, further action is taken. For example, a medical caregiver can evaluate the patient's condition, including the effectiveness of the drug therapy, patient compliance, whether the patient's condition is improving, whether the patient requires hospitalization or an office consultation to prevent the condition from getting worse, etc.

The monitoring device may ask the patient to provide responses to health-related questions or requests for physiological characteristics and may upload the responses. A health care professional may then use the responses to evaluate the health of the patient. A set of firmware instructions stored on the monitoring device may cause the monitoring device to perform these functions. The monitoring device may download a prompt that is associated with at least one instruction in the set of firmware instructions. The prompt may cause the patient monitoring device to execute the at least one instruction in the set of firmware instructions to gather information relating to a patient.
