Publication number: 20050138864Abstract: A chemical reactor is disclosed and which has a core composed of a stack of metal plates that are diffusion bonded in face-to-face relationship. A plurality of reaction zones are located within the core, as are a plurality of catalyst receiving zones, and both the reaction zones and the catalyst receiving zones are defined by respective aligned apertures in the plates. A first channel arrangement is provided in some of the plates for transporting a first reactant to and between the reaction zones, portions of the first channel arrangement that interconnect the reaction zones being formed over at least a portion of their length as heat exchange channels. A second channel arrangement is provided in others of the plates and is arranged to deliver a second reactant to each of the reaction zones.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 3, 2003Publication date: June 30, 2005Inventors: Anthony Johnston, Brian Haynes

Patent number: 5803431Abstract: The shearing gate valve includes a gate reciprocably mounted between opposing seat rings. The gate has an opening which aligns with bores in the mating seat rings. The opening in the gate and the bores of the seat rings each have a cutting recess. The cutting recess in each mouth of the opening of the gate is formed by a counterbore which is filled with a weld overlay material that bonds with the material of the gate. A layer of hard facing material covers the sides of the gate and also extends over the bond formed between the gate and weld overlay material but does not completely cover the weld overlay material thus forming the cutting recess. The cutting recess has a depth equal to the thickness of the hard facing material. The weld overlay material is hard so as to prevent the formation of an upset which will score or gall the sealing surfaces between the gate and seat rings.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 1995Date of Patent: September 8, 1998Assignee: Cooper Cameron CorporationInventors: Loc Gia Hoang, Brian Haynes

Patent number: 5639471Abstract: The invention is a method for determining the effectiveness of a diet program for administration to a patient having at least one diet-responsive condition. The method includes the steps of selecting a plurality of patients, each having at least one diet-responsive condition; identifying at least one quantifiable indicator of each of the diet-responsive conditions and measuring the at least one indicator for each of the patient during a four week baseline period; and monitoring each of the patients during the baseline period to determine a baseline quality of life. The plurality of patient are divided randomly between a first group and a second group. The diet program is administered to each of the patients in the first group during a ten week intervention period and each of the patient in the second group is maintained on a control diet with known beneficial effects on the at least one diet-responsive condition during the intervention period.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 1995Date of Patent: June 17, 1997Assignee: Campbell Soup CompanyInventors: Allen Chait, Dan Hatton, R.
