Patent number: 10716733Abstract: A child and bite resistant package having a tray and a plurality of spaced apart cavities that are formed therein is provided. A sheet material overlies the tray such that a product disposed in a cavity is enclosed and sealed therein. The sheet material includes a plurality of zones of weakening that are each disposed above a corresponding cavity. Each of the zones of weakening is formed by a plurality of microperforations that are formed in the sheet material. To access a product, the product is pushed against the lidding in the zone of weakness with sufficient force to rupture the lidding. Since the majority of the surface area above each compartment is non-rupturable, the compartments are difficult to access by a child by either hand manipulation or biting.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 2013Date of Patent: July 21, 2020Assignee: Amcor Flexibles, Inc.Inventor: Brian Ingraham

Patent number: 10351305Abstract: The invention provides a sterilizable pouch having at least one wall formed of a flexible film and including an opening formed therein for providing communication to an interior space of the package. A breathable material is disposed on an outer surface of the wall covering the opening. The breathable material is joined to the outer surface of the wall with a continuous heat seal. A heat resistant material is positioned between the breathable material an outer surface of the wall.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 2016Date of Patent: July 16, 2019Assignee: AMCOR FLEXIBLES, INC.Inventors: Adam Jan Dworak, Brian Ingraham

Patent number: 8479921Abstract: A child and bite resistant package having a tray and a plurality of spaced apart cavities that are formed therein is provided. The plurality of microperforations, and hence, each zone of weakening covers from about 5 to 90% of the surface area of the sheet material that overlies each of the individual compartments. To access a product, the product is pushed against the lidding in the zone of weakness with sufficient force to rupture the lidding. Since the majority of the surface area above each compartment is non-rupturable, the compartments are difficult to access by a child by either hand manipulation or biting.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 2009Date of Patent: July 9, 2013Assignee: Amcor Flexibles, Inc.Inventor: Brian Ingraham

Publication number: 20060016708Abstract: An autoclavable sterilization bag is provided having first and second composite film laminates positioned in opposing relation and sealed to one another to form a pouch. At least the first laminate comprises a heat sealable transparent thermoplastic polymer inner layer forming an inner surface of the laminate and a transparent polymer film outer layer. A transparent barrier layer is located between the inner and outer layers and formed of molecularly oriented polychlorotrifluoroethylene (PCTFE). In advantageous specific embodiments of the invention, the heat sealable transparent thermoplastic polymer inner layer is a polyolefin film, and the transparent polymer outer layer is a film selected from the group consisting of polyethylene terephthalate, nylon, polypropylene, polyethylene and cellophane.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 21, 2004Publication date: January 26, 2006Inventor: Brian Ingraham

Patent number: 6893672Abstract: The present invention relates to a multilayer polymeric film structure and a food package made therefrom. Specifically, the present invention relates to a seven-layer non-EVOH structure having six layers of alternating nylon and adhesive, and a seventh layer of a heat sealable polymer. Either the sixth layer comprising the adhesive or the seventh layer comprising the heat sealable polymer may further comprise a polymer, preferably polybutylene, polypropylene and/or high density polyethylene, that may allow the film structure to be easily peelable when heat sealed. Moreover, the present invention relates to food packages made by the film structures having a easy-open peelable seal component contained therein.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 2001Date of Patent: May 17, 2005Assignee: Pechiney Emballage Flexible EuropeInventor: Brian Ingraham
