Publication number: 20040093093Abstract: A neural prosthesis has a generator of electrical pulses, the pulses having a sine wave shape with frequency greater than 5 kHz, which may be amplitude modulated with a modulator, a blocking electrode for delivery of the electrical pulses to the neuron of the human nerve, the blocking electrode being electrically connected to the generator; and a controller operatively connected to the generator, the controller including an input for receiving control inputs, a control circuit responsive to the control inputs, and an output line responsive to the control circuit for sending output signals, the output signals of the controller including at least a start signal and a stop signal for controlling the generator.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 13, 2003Publication date: May 13, 2004Applicant: The Governors of the University of AlbertaInventor: Brian J. Patent number: 6618355Abstract: The system provides a distributed decentralized network architecture. Network routing is performed at each node in the network, as opposed to the centralized architecture's single POP. Each node is typically an access point to the network, and it collects the relevant traffic statistics for subscribers connecting at that node. This is accomplished by a network switching/control element contained within the (Invisible Fiber Unit) IFU. The information is collected from the switching/control element contained within the IFU. The information is collected from the switching element by the IFU's CPU. This information can then be pre-processed locally, or sent directly to a central billing facility, for further processing, eventually resulting in the creation of the subscriber's bill. Essentially, it is only billing information that flows back to a central point, rather than the data traffic itself.Type: GrantFiled: May 7, 1999Date of Patent: September 9, 2003Assignee: Carriercomm, Inc.Inventors: Philip C. Patent number: 6366584Abstract: The present invention is a wireless network designed to deliver information communication services, such as telephony and data services, from a service provider, such as an ISP or LEC to metropolitan commercial customer locations. The network of a preferred embodiment of the present invention incorporates all system components necessary to connect customers, application equipment (e.g., phones, PBX's, computers) to the service provider's equipment, (e.g., C.O. switch, Tandem switch, point of presence (POP) gateway, ISP server, etc.). The preferred embodiment of the present invention integrates all the various functional tasks at the component level, to build a comprehensive, cohesive network solution. The network architecture of the present invention includes a distributed set of non-hierarchal nodes, connected together via wireless links. Nodes of the network can act both as termination points (i.e., connecting to the customer's or service provider's equipment) and/or as tandems, (i.e.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 1999Date of Patent: April 2, 2002Assignee: Triton Network Systems, Inc.Inventors: Philip C. Patent number: 5502762Abstract: There is disclosed a method and system for redirecting a telephone call incoming to a first line to a selected one or more second lines. In operation, ringing signals initially applied to the first line by the central switching network are inhibited and instead a three-way calling connection is established to the second telephone. Ringing signals applied to the second telephone from the second network connection are detected and cause ringing signals to be applied to the first telephone substantially concurrently with the application of ringing signals to the second telephone. The system is controlled by a processor located in physical proximity to the first telephone.Type: GrantFiled: June 10, 1994Date of Patent: March 26, 1996Inventors: Brian J. Andrew, Jo E. Andrew
