  • Publication number: 20190076147
Abstract: A handle assembly for use with a surgical instrument including a housing, a movable handle, a plunger, a first linkage, and a second linkage. The movable handle is pivotably mounted to the housing about a handle pin. The plunger is disposed at least partially within the housing. Distal translation of the plunger relative to the housing is configured to affect a function of the surgical instrument. The first linkage is disposed at least partially within the housing. A first portion of the first linkage is pivotable about the housing, and a second portion of the first linkage is slidable relative to the handle pin. The second linkage is disposed at least partially within the housing. A first portion of the second linkage is pivotable about the plunger, and a second portion of the second linkage is pivotable about a third portion of the first linkage.

  • Publication number: 20190076210
Abstract: A handle assembly for use with a surgical instrument includes a housing defining a contact wall, a movable handle, a plunger, a linkage, and a feedback mechanism. The plunger is disposed at least partially within the housing and defines a longitudinal axis. The linkage interconnects the movable handle with the plunger such that actuation of the movable handle results in longitudinal translation of the plunger relative to the housing. The feedback mechanism is configured to provide audible feedback to a user, and includes an indicator snap wire and a track defined by a wall of the housing. The snap wire is configured to move along the track in response to longitudinal translation of the plunger. The snap wire is configured to engage the contact wall of the housing to create a sound that is audible to a user when the movable handle has been actuated a predetermined amount.

  • Publication number: 20190076149
Abstract: A shaft assembly of an apparatus for applying surgical clips to body tissue includes a pair of jaws movable between a spaced-apart position and an approximated position, an elongated spindle, a shaft, a slidable member, and a pusher bar fixed to the slidable member. The slidable member is movable through longitudinally-extending channels of the spindle and the shaft. The pusher bar is configured to load a distal-most surgical clip into the pair of jaws during distal movement of the slidable member, via distal movement of the spindle, and remain in a distally advanced position during approximation of the pair of jaws.

  • Publication number: 20190053808
Abstract: A hub assembly for use with an endoscopic assembly of a reposable surgical clip applier includes an outer housing defining a channel therethrough, a driver gear slidably disposed within the channel, a transmission gear slidably and rotatably supported within the channel, and a display gear slidably and rotatably supported within the channel. Each of the driver gear, transmission gear, and display gear is configured for reciprocal movement within the channel. Distal advancement of the driver gear causes a corresponding distal advancement of the transmission gear and distal advancement of the transmission gear causes a corresponding distal advancement of the display gear. The transmission gear is caused to the rotated in a first direction during each distal advancement of the driver gear and the display gear is caused to be rotated in the first direction during a predetermined distal advancement of the transmission gear.

  • Publication number: 20190046207
Abstract: A shaft assembly of an apparatus for applying surgical clips to body tissue includes an elongated spindle, a trip block reciprocally supported on a proximal portion of the spindle, a biasing member extending between the proximal portion of the spindle and the trip block, and a pusher bar having a proximal portion fixedly coupled to the trip block. The pusher bar has a distal portion configured to load a distal-most surgical clip into a pair of jaws during distal movement of the trip block, via distal movement of the spindle, and remain in a distally advanced position during an approximation of the pair of jaws.

  • Publication number: 20190046203
Abstract: An actuation mechanism, and a handle assembly and a surgical clip applier including the same are disclosed. The actuation mechanism includes a drive bar movable through a stroke having first and second stroke portions and an output gear rack. First and second intermediate gears include input portions operably coupled to a trigger and output portions defining different diameters. In the first stroke portion, the output portion of the first intermediate gear is engaged with the gear rack such that the first intermediate gear drives the drive bar. In the second stroke portion, the output portion of the second intermediate gear is disposed in engagement with the gear rack such that the second intermediate gear drives the drive bar. A different mechanical advantage is provided in the first portion of the stroke length as compared to the second portion of the stroke length.

  • Patent number: 9775623
Abstract: A surgical clip applier includes a jaw assembly having first and second jaws. Each jaw defines an opposed surface configured to receive a portion of a surgical clip. The jaws are moveable between a spaced-apart position and an approximated position for forming the surgical clip about tissue. Each jaw includes a relief element disposed on a surface adjacent to and substantially transverse relative to the opposed surface thereof. The relief elements are cooperable to define a relief recess upon movement of the jaws to the approximated position. The relief recess is configured to receive at least a portion of a previously formed surgical clip during formation of a subsequent surgical clip about tissue adjacent to the previously formed surgical clip.
