Publication number: 20250054172Abstract: A method of obtaining a measurement of a part using depth data from a plurality of sensors comprises obtaining first depth data of a monument and a part from a first sensor and second depth data of the monument and the part from a second sensor. A plurality of planes is detected in the first depth data and the second depth data. Each plane of the plurality of planes corresponds to a corresponding face on the monument. The method comprises performing a rotational alignment of the plurality of planes. The method further comprises performing a translational alignment of the rotationally aligned plurality of planes. One or more transformations are determined that align the first depth data and the second depth data to a common coordinate system based upon the rotational alignment and the translational alignment. A measurement of the part is determined based upon aligned depth data.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 10, 2023Publication date: February 13, 2025Inventors: Kristine Marie Kasper, William D. Kelsey, Brian James Smith, Ethan Weathersby, Mitchell Middleton, Miguel Angel Valbuena

Patent number: 11518121Abstract: A composite laminate stiffener is formed to contour with reduced ply wrinkling using constrained creep forming. The tooling apparatus is provided with flexible cauls which constrain the stiffener during the contour forming process. The creep forming is carried out at a slow enough rate so that friction or shear resistance between the resin and fibers of the plies remains low enough that slippage can occur and significant compression stresses are not generated rate, allowing relaxation of residual stresses in the stiffener.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 2019Date of Patent: December 6, 2022Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: Gagandeep Saini, Lisa Christina Carlson, Kurtis Shuldberg Willden, Brian James Smith, Jonathan Santiago

Patent number: 8378853Abstract: A method of managing alerts associated with the operation of an aircraft is provided. The method maintains an alert model database that correlates root causes to alerts associated with onboard aircraft subsystems. During operation of the aircraft, the method receives first alert data indicative of at least one alert of a first onboard aircraft subsystem, and traverses the alert model database to determine a root cause of the first alert data. The root cause (or some indicia thereof) can then be displayed on a display element.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 2009Date of Patent: February 19, 2013Assignee: Honeywell International Inc.Inventors: Brian James Smith, Billy Durham, Jeff Vanderzweep

Patent number: 8363663Abstract: A method is described for routing data from a first node to a second node via a gateway. The second node is detected at the gateway, which determines a local identifier of the second node. A name and a global address are associated with the second node. The name and the global address are published to a name service, such that the first node can retrieve the global address based on the name. The gateway receives data from the first node that is addressed to the global address and transmits the data to the second node using the local identifier. The gateway includes software implementing a service-oriented architecture (SOA). Any number of additional services may be added to process messages passing through the gateway.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 2009Date of Patent: January 29, 2013Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: Brian James Smith, Marcelo M.
