  • Publication number: 20250001064
Abstract: Quantifying blood loss with a medical waste collection system. A removable cartridge forms a fluid path with a cartridge receiver, and defines a detection window that is optically clear. The cartridge may include a spine extending from a head and including opposing sides that are optically clear. A sensor module includes emitters and sensors configured to detect an optical characteristic of the waste fluid. A controller may determine the volume of blood loss based on blood concentration and volume of collected waste fluid. A sensor housing may be removably coupled to the spine of the cartridge. The cartridge may define a fluid reservoir, and include an actuator for drawing the waste fluid into the fluid reservoir. A tank may define the fluid reservoir. The waste fluid may be recirculated through a removable manifold. Methods of arranging and operating the medical waste collection system are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20240398391
Abstract: A cassette for collecting a tissue sample. The cassette includes a housing configured to be removably coupled with a manifold receiver of a medical fluid collection system. The housing defines a first void space, a second void space, and an outlet opening. A catch tray is removably positionable within the first void space and includes a screen defining porous features for collecting the tissue sample. A filter element separate from the catch tray is disposed within the second void space. The housing may include a cap portion defining the first void space, and a shell portion coupled to the cap portion and defining the second void space. The cassette may be simultaneously operable in a tissue collection mode in which fluid is suctioned across the catch tray to collect the tissue sample, and a bypass mode in which the fluid is not suctioned across the catch tray.

  • Publication number: 20240359222
Abstract: A waste disposal system with a waste receiver for receiving pharmaceutical waste material. A locking assembly is secured to a fixed surface and actuated from a locked configuration to an unlocked configuration. A lock cylinder of the locking assembly may extend forward of a front wall of a receiver body of the waste receiver to engage a locking feature of the cover in the locked configuration. A cover retention feature may prevent axial decoupling of the cover from the receiver body. The receiver body may be formed from two shells. A reaction agent is positioned within the container volume and spaced apart from a bottom wall of the receiver body. The reaction agent may be positioned within the container volume between the lock passageway and/or a solid receiver volume, and opposing sidewalls of the receiver body. • Publication number: 20230405207
Abstract: Quantifying blood loss with a medical waste collection system including a receiver with which a manifold is removably coupled. The manifold and/or the medical waste collection system is coupled with a fluid characterization module having a sensor assembly to detect a characteristic indicative of a blood concentration within fluid. The sensor assembly may include emitters, and sensors to detect light transmitted and scattered by the fluid in a suction path or a detection window. A first emitter may be a visible-light LED, and a second emitter an infrared LED. A fluid director may provide a tortuous path within the manifold and facilitate separation of gas and liquid within the fluid. Quantifying the blood loss volume may include determining the blood concentration within the fluid, and determining a volume of the collected fluid. Gain of the sensors may be adjusted based on the transmissivity of the collected fluid.
