Abstract: A method, apparatus, and computer-readable medium are provided for managing specific types of content in an electronic document. A user interface is provided for displaying a specific type of content in a predefined area of and electronic document. The user interface includes a content region for receiving the specific type of content and displaying the specific type of content within a predefined boundary. The user interface also includes a selection region for receiving a selection of content for insertion into the content region. The user interface validates the content received in the content region based on the specific type of content defined for the content region and based on a predefined content limit. The specific type of content received in the content region may be formatted according to a predetermined format and may also be bound to a data source external to the electronic document.

Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for utilizing a document object model to manage content regions for use in an electronic document. A content region is a predefined area which may be inserted in an electronic document and which serves as a placeholder for receiving and displaying specific types of content such as text, graphics data, calendar data, or tabular data. The document object model enables a user to create, modify, and delete content regions from an electronic document using an application programming interface from within a computer application program.

Abstract: There is provided a topical lightening composition having carboxylmethyl cysteamine as a melanin synthesis-regulating agent and a cosmetically acceptable vehicle. Also, there is provided a topical lightening composition having N, N, S (tris) carboxylmethyl cysteamine and a cosmetically acceptable vehicle. In addition, there is provided a topical lightening composition having carboxylmethyl cysteamine, preferably N, N, S (tris) carboxylmethyl cysteamine, and an additional lightening agent and a cosmetically acceptable vehicle. The compositions and methods of the invention are effective to lighten skin, hair, lips, and/or nails.

Abstract: A convenient and efficient method for heating or cooling the mobile phase fluid of a chromatographic system prior to its entry into the chromatographic column is described. The “preheating” or “precooling” process is carried out using an apparatus containing a short length of tubing where the mobile phase is heated or cooled. The heating or cooling is performed using a heating or cooling element that is in intimate thermal contact with the exterior of the tubing. The temperature change of the mobile phase is measured downstream by a non-invasive, low-mass sensing element on the exterior of the tubing. With a low mass heating or cooling element, the device can be very responsive and allows for rapid equilibration and convenient temperature programming of the mobile phase. This configuration also requires only a short mobile phase contact time, is non-invasive, adds no dead volume, and allows for use of columns over a wide range of internal diameter, flow rates and temperatures.

A cassette tambour door automatically opens during insertion of the cassette into the dispenser. The picker can pick notes through the opening. A spring loaded housing wall tab retains the picker shaft in mating connection with a drive pin. The transporter can move notes vertically and horizontally. The transporter includes belts between an idle shaft and a drive shaft. The idle shaft is vertically movable relative to a drive shaft to maintain belt tension. The transporter also includes convexly tapered rollers that automatically recenter a loose belt. A presenter gate is at a note dispensing outlet of the ATM. The gate is opened by actuating a lever linked with an arm connected to the gate. The gate opens by moving a pin upward in an angled slot.

More particularly, the present invention is directed to a cassette which comprises a first chamber suitable for isolating DNA from a biological sample that is suspected of containing a target DNA, one or more second chambers suitable for amplifying any target DNA found in the sample, a chamber suitable for digesting the target DNA with restriction endonucleases, a medium for separation of the digestion fragments, and a channel connecting the digestion chamber to the separation medium and being of suitable size for transferring at least a portion of the contents of the digestion chamber to the separation medium. Typically, the medium for separation of the digestion fragments is an electrophoretic medium. The cassette of the present invention can also be used for the separation and identification of a protein of interest in a biological sample.

Abstract: Methods are disclosed for improving the appearance of skin by topical administration of thiazole derivatives which inhibit the formation of advanced glycation endproducts, break advanced glycation endproduct-associated crosslinks, and inhibit the function of glucose oxidase. Cosmetic and pharmaceutical compositions comprising the thiazole derivatives are also disclosed.
