  • Patent number: 8979051
Abstract: A shaft clamp having a first clamp member and a second clamp member, each having a main body shaped to allow positioning of the clamp member about a shaft and engagement of a shaft by a surface of the main body, is disclosed. The two clamp members are pivotably connected together at adjoining ends and separable at free ends, much like a clam shell configuration. A locking mechanism engagable with the free ends of the first and second clamp members is used to secure and pull the free ends of the clamp members to one another as they are positioned about a shaft. Alternatively, a torque-assisting extension connected to at least one of either the first member or the second member may be included. The extension allows the shaft clamp to be rotated, moved, or otherwise maneuvered more easily as it is secured about a shaft.
