  • Patent number: 5925151
Abstract: A detergent additive composition for diesel fuel contains a low molecular weight polyisobutylene monosuccinimide of polyethylene polyamine in an aromatic hydrocarbon diluent. The detergent additive composition may be used to remove or prevent engine deposits and their corrosive effects.

  • Patent number: 5445750
Abstract: A lubricating oil composition comprising(1) a major portion of a lubricating oil of a base oil viscosity, and(2) a minor portion of an antioxidant-dispersant lubricating additive prepared by the process comprising:(a) reacting a polyethyleneamine with an alkenylsuccinic acid anhydride to form a mono- and/or bis-alkenylsuccinimide;(b) adding to said mono-and/or bis-alkenylsuccinimide, a bis(hydroxyaromatic) substituted carboxylic acid and, optionally, another acylating agent to form an acylated mono-and/or bis-alkenylsuccinimide;(c) recovering said acylated mono-and/or bis-alkenylsuccinimide.

  • Patent number: 5332514
Abstract: A continuous method of preparing an overbased calcium sulfonate which comprises repeating the following steps until a desired TBN is obtained, said method comprising: (a) contacting Ca (OH).sub.2 and methanol with a normal calcium sulfonate hydrocarbon solution to solubilize at least a portion of the Ca(OH).sub.2 ; (b) filtering the sulfonate solution to separate and remove the non-solubilized Ca(OH).sub.2 from the solubilized Ca(OH).sub.2 contained in an obtained sulfonate filtrate; (c) treating said sulfonate filtrate with gaseous CO.sub.2 to convert the solubilized CA(OH).sub.2 to solubilized CaCO.sub.3 ; (d) blowing said solubilized CaCO.sub.3 with an inert gas to remove therefrom any excess CO.sub.2 and the aqueous phase generated therein to obtain an overbased sulfonate liquid; (e) adding more of said normal calcium sulfonate solution to said overbased sulfonate liquid and contacting said overbased sulfonate liquid with said non-solubilized Ca(OH).sub.2 and additional fresh Ca(OH).sub.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 5011618
Abstract: An improvement is provided in a process for making a calcium sulfonate wherein a calcium base/calcium sulfonate mixture is mixed, stirred, reacted with CO.sub.2, and filtered to produce the sulfonate product. The improvement comprises stirring the calcium base/calcium sulfonate mixture at variable speeds over a sufficient length of time, whereby the product's filterability is enhanced and viscosity reduced.

    Assignee: Texaco Inc.
Inventors: Brian L. Papke, Leonard S. Bartley, Jr.
  • Patent number: 4995993
Abstract: A method of preparing a amorphous metal sulfonate detergent for lubricants. The sulfonate detergent is prepared by:(a) mixing, stirring and heating a diluted metal sulfonate with Ca(OH).sub.2 ;(b) adding to the stirred, heated sulfonate mixture a sufficient amount of CO.sub.2 to heat with all the Ca(OH).sub.2 added;(c) adding a zeolite to the mixture partway through the addition of CO.sub.2 to remove a certain percentage of the total water in said mixture;(d) filtering the water-removed mixture to separate an amorphous metal sulfonate product; and(e) recovering the amorphous overbased metal sulfonate product.
