  • Publication number: 20040179226
Abstract: An exemplary device includes: a scanner capable of beginning a scan of a scanning target and providing timing-related information for the scan; and a printer capable of printing an image of the scanning target and receiving the timing-related information, the printer including a print engine; wherein the printer is adapted to activate the print engine prior to receiving all scan lines of the scanning target responsive to the timing-related information. An exemplary method for accelerating printing includes actions of: beginning a scan of a scanning target; determining timing-related information from the scan; and sending an instruction to a print engine responsive to the timing-related information and prior to completing the scan.

  • Patent number: 6559971
Abstract: A demonstration page automatically resizes itself to fit a preferred media size of a printing device on which the demonstration page is printed. The demonstration page image is embedded in a printer control language (or page description language) to enable the automatic resizing of the image. The demonstration page omits control language commands that would otherwise override the preferred media size. Thus, the preferred media size stored in the printing device is used by the demonstration page for resizing and printing purposes. The demonstration page includes control language that identifies an original media size associated with the stored image and further includes control language that calculates scale factors for resizing the image to best fit the preferred media size.

  • Patent number: 6222539
Abstract: An image forming device which includes extended help information available at the control panel of the image forming device using a combination of hardware and software or firmware to increase the functionality of the control panel. Dual functionality may be added to one of the selector switches on the control panel such as the item selector switch; a separate help button may be provided on the control panel; and in addition to the help button a visual indicator display such as a light emitting diode (LED) can be added to indicate the availability of help as well. A help symbol can also be displayed on the alphanumeric display panel such as a “?” to indicate the availability of help. Advantageously the help button is a rocker type switch which allows scrolling of the display and is geographically located on the control panel, such as immediately to the right of the display in a vertical orientation.
