Patent number: 6409093Abstract: An electronically controlled micro-dispensing apparatus (10) is described. The apparatus includes a container (12), an adaptor (18), a nozzle (28) and a control circuit (34 or 42). The container is filled with the chemical (104) and propellant (102). The adaptor, nozzle and control circuit are removable from the container and are reusable. The control circuits controls the length of pulse and the time duration between each pulse. By controlling these factors, the apparatus dispenses a precise amount of liquid over a set time period. The ejector allows for controlled dispensing and allows the liquid to be sprayed a greater distance. In the preferred embodiment, the apparatus are used to dispense a pheromone in an outdoor setting, such as an orchard (100), to control insects.Type: GrantFiled: January 15, 2001Date of Patent: June 25, 2002Assignee: Board of Trustees of Michigan State UniversityInventors: Michael J. Ulczynski, Brian L. Wright, James Ray Miller

Patent number: 5986361Abstract: An electronically controlled micro-dispensing apparatus (10 or 210) is described. The apparatus includes a liquid storage container (12), a propellant container (16), a control circuit (34 or 42) and an ejector (28). In a second embodiment, the liquid and propellant are in the same container (212). The control circuits control the length of pulse and the time duration between each pulse. By controlling these factors, the apparatus dispenses a precise amount of liquid over a set time period. The ejector allows for controlled dispensing and allows the liquid to be sprayed a greater distance. In the preferred embodiment, the apparatus are used to dispense a pheromone in an outdoor setting, such as an orchard, to control insects.Type: GrantFiled: June 1, 1998Date of Patent: November 16, 1999Assignee: Board of Trustees operating Michigan State UniversityInventors: James Ray Miller, Michael John Ulczynski, Brian L. Patent number: 4815885Abstract: A connecting arrangement comprises at least one connecting rod having at one or each end a connecting stud. The stud has a head portion at its free end an adjacent neck portion which leads into the head portion through an inclined shoulder. A spherical or part-spherical connecting member has one or a plurality of bores disposed on its surface and extending into the spherical or part-spherical member from its surface for receiving the connecting studs at the end of the connecting rods. One or a plurality of threaded bores each intersect a respective one of the stud receiving bores and locate a grub screw, the arrangement being such that as a said grub screw is screwed into its bore it engages said shoulder on the stud to draw said rod into said bore. Various means can be provided for preventing rotation of the connecting rods about their own axes.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 1987Date of Patent: March 28, 1989Inventor: Brian L. Wright

Patent number: 4726312Abstract: An accessory or an accessory mount for a yacht comprises a device (1) not involved with the normal operation of a winch and having an integral supporting leg (3) which is adapted to locate in the handle receiving socket of a winch. The leg (3) is designed to be a jamm fit in the handle receiving socket, and has a thread (5) at least towards its upper end. A threaded ring (6) engages the threaded upper end of the leg (3) and is screwable down the leg (3) so that it will engage the top of the winch and force the leg (3) out of its jamm fit with the socket.Type: GrantFiled: October 20, 1986Date of Patent: February 23, 1988Inventor: Brian L. Wright

Patent number: 4699074Abstract: An accessory or an accessory mount for yachts comprises a device having an integral supporting leg which is adatped to locate in the handle receiving socket of a winch and be releasably locked in the winch. The locking device comprises a locking plate provided at the lower end of a post which passes upwardly through the leg and which is rotatable about its longitudinal axis to rotate the locking plate to and from an operative position in which it traps the leg against being pulled out of the handle receiving socket. The post which is preferably made of steel projects upwardly beyond the leg to provide a spigot mounting for an accessory or accessory platform.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 1986Date of Patent: October 13, 1987Inventor: Brian L. Wright
