  • Publication number: 20050228890
Abstract: A system manages operating sessions of an executable application initiated via a browser application on a workstation. The system includes a detector, a monitor, a communicator, and a command processor. The detector detects initiation of a first operational session of an executable application on a workstation, wherein the initiation occurs in response to user activation of a displayed URL link. The monitor determines whether a previously initiated second operational session of the executable application is concurrently operational on the workstation by comparing a portion of the URL with stored data representing one or more URLs corresponding to one or more executable applications currently operational on the workstation. The command processor redirects the first operational session to a URL of the previously initiated second operational session of the executable application in response to a URL match determined by the comparison. The communicator terminates establishment of the first operational session.

  • Patent number: 6921735
Abstract: Highly active, recoverable and recyclable transition metal-based metathesis catalysts and their organometallic complexes including dendrimeric complexes are disclosed, including a Ru complex bearing a 1,3-dimesityl-4,5-dihydroimidazol-2-ylidene and styrenyl ether ligand. The heterocyclic ligand significantly enhances the catalytic activity, and the styrenyl ether allows for the easy recovery of the Ru complex. Derivatized catalysts capable of being immobilized on substrate surfaces are also disclosed. The present catalysts can be used to catalyze ring-closing metathesis (RCM), ring-opening (ROM) and cross metatheses (CM) reactions, and promote the efficient formation of various trisubstituted olefins at ambient temperature in high yield.

  • Publication number: 20040128026
Abstract: An active-constraint robot (4), particularly for surgical use, is controlled by means of a series of motorised joints to provide a surgeon with real-time tactile feedback of an operation in progress. The robot system holds, in memory, a series of constraint surfaces beyond which it would be dangerous for the surgeon to go, and a resistive force is applied to the cutting tool (14) as the surgeon approaches any such surface. To improve the overall quality of feedback experienced by the surgeon, the resistive force applied to the cutting tool (14) depends upon the point of intersection (I) between the force factor applied by the surgeon and the surface. Further improvements are achieved by adjusting the tangential resistive force, when the tool is adjacent to the surface, in dependence upon the surrounding shape of the surface.

  • Publication number: 20040115606
Abstract: A training system for training a user in the operation of a tool comprises a two-axis actively-constrained computer-controlled motorised table (1000) which has a grip member (2000) attached to a pen (3000). In use, the system provides active constraint to a user, allowing the pen (3000) to move only within a narrow region of permitted motion. As the user becomes more proficient, the system gradually allows the user more freedom. In that way, the user becomes more proficient in performing certain physical motions. The system finds particular although not exclusive applicable in the training of surgeons, specifically in surgical implant procedures.

  • Publication number: 20040102866
Abstract: The invention in its various forms relates generally to surgical planning methods, and in particular to the planning of surgical operations to implant a prosthesis. In a first embodiment, the surgeon uses an interactive system to design both the shape of the prosthesis and the shape of the bone. In a second embodiment, a modified Marching Cubes algorithm is used to simulate cutting planes within bones. In a third embodiment, back-projection is used within a computer model to allow an integrated display of both bone and prosthesis. In a fourth embodiment, an interactive system is used to test the mobility of a proposed implant, prior to undertaking a surgical operation.

  • Publication number: 20030087707
Abstract: A bowling game variation of the game of bingo bowling is provided which allows for a bowling game wherein the bowlers can eliminate the “race” element of the game, and instead, play a bingo bowling game with scoring points being awarded. According to the invention, the bowler is given a set of shot or frame outcomes to achieve, and is awarded points based on the completion of the shot or frame outcomes within a pre-set time period or within a pre-set number of frames. Scoring for the card can be accomplished using a computer based system. This system allows for a wider variety of games to be played by a bowler.

  • Publication number: 20030017919
Abstract: A barbell assembly includes a plurality of magnetic weights selectively positioned on opposite end portions of an axially elongated bar. A single weight or group of weights on each end of the bar is retained between an inner collar mounted in fixed position on the bar and an outer collar releasably secured to the bar by a locking device. Each outer collar is magnetically coupled to an associated weight or group of weights and aids in positioning the weights so that no axial play occurs between the weights and the collars. Each inner collar may also be magnetically coupled to the weight or weights associated with it. Alternatively, both the inner and outer collars may be magnetically coupled to the weights and to each other and to the supporting bar.

  • Patent number: 6236457
Abstract: Spectroscopic apparatus for sequentially detecting the presence of a plurality of elements in a sample. The apparatus includes a plurality of lamps (1a-1e) each of which is for detecting the presence of a respective at least one predetermined element in a plurality of elements. A beam selector (13) which may be a mirror, is operative to direct a beam of light (7) from any one of lamps (1a-1e) to an analysis zone (8). The apparatus includes a monochromator (15), the drive (24) of which is under the control of a controller (25) with a memory device (26) linked thereto. Predetermined settings for the monochromator corresponding to the peak settings for each wavelength of interest can be stored in memory (26) for subsequently driving the monochromator to those settings without the need to undertake a peaking routine for each elemental analysis, thereby saving analyses time.
