  • Publication number: 20210228371
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention include a convertible prosthesis that is capable of conversion from a humeral head replacement to a reverse reconstruction without any removal of parts integrated into the patient's bony anatomy (e.g. implant stems). A desired overall implant inclination angle may be achieved by matching various implant stems with various reverse inserts, thus permitting a resection surface to be matched with an implant stem selection while also permitting a desired overall implant inclination angle to be achieved through the selection of an appropriate insert.

  • Publication number: 20060276903
Abstract: A medical procedure for use in connection with a patient suffering from cuff tear arthropathy is disclosed. The medial procedure includes providing a humeral prosthesis having a prosthetic head component, wherein (i) the prosthetic head component includes a glenoid-bearing portion and an acromion-bearing portion, and (ii) the glenoid-bearing portion and the acromion-bearing portion define an outer bearing surface, and (iii) the outer bearing surface extends in a medial/lateral direction across a radial distance D, and (iii) D?190°. The medical procedure further includes implanting the humeral prosthesis in the patient so that the acromion-bearing portion contacts and bears directly against a natural acromion of the patient during abduction of an arm of the patient that possesses the humerus.

  • Patent number: 6736851
Abstract: A shoulder prosthesis and/or prosthesis sizing system, especially for treatment of degenerative arthritis or trauma, has an articulating head component. The shoulder prosthesis includes a humeral stem and a series of humeral heads. The heads are attached to the humeral stem by means of a locking connector. The locking connector allows the humeral head to be oriented in multiple positions of version, varus/valgus angulation, eccentricity and head height, while providing rigid securing of the humeral head to the humeral stem in the selected position relative to the humeral stem. In one form, the locking connector includes an expansion collar that provides radially outward expansion for humeral head position locking. The present shoulder prosthesis provides a means to anatomically position the humeral head relative to the humeral stem and rigidly secure the humeral head in the selected position relative to the humeral stem. This is accomplished by a minimum of components.
