Patent number: 8349130Abstract: A method and apparatus for the treatment of pulp mill condensates is described. A hollow fiber contactor, incorporating a hydrophobic membrane, was used to remove several undesirable compounds from pulp mill condensates. For example, TRS compounds and SO2 were efficiently stripped from kraft and sulphite mill evaporator condensates, respectively. Methanol was also removed from kraft mill condensates but at a lower efficiency than TRS. Furthermore, other undesirable compounds found in condensates of pulp mills that contribute to the BOD and COD loading to effluent treatment systems were also removed. These contactors are cost effective since air, vacuum or a suitable solvent or scrubbing solution can be used as the stripping medium to drive off through the membrane several undesirable compounds from the feed solution. The undesirable compounds removed can thus be burned in the recovery boiler, lime kiln or a dedicated boiler.Type: GrantFiled: July 24, 2008Date of Patent: January 8, 2013Assignee: FPInnovationsInventors: Naceur Jemaa, Michael Paleologou, Brian O'Connor

Patent number: 7966366Abstract: Architecture that introduces evaluation and decisionmaking (e.g., at the server) and allows a runtime decision to be made, on a per-request basis, as to where the data calculations will occur, on the server, on the client, or as a shared execution on both the server and the client. The decision can be made based on environment variables (e.g., permissions, network bandwidth, server load, etc.) of the user, for example. This approach provides performance tuning of a form by dynamically optimizing the location of execution of the code based on environment factors.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 2008Date of Patent: June 21, 2011Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Rafiq El Alami, Brian O'Connor, Donald Reamey, Bryan Short

Patent number: 7918825Abstract: A prefilled syringe may be interfaced with and used to fill an infusion pump with therapeutic liquid. The dispensing end of the prefilled syringe may be coupled (either directly or indirectly using a syringe cap) to a syringe coupling region of the infusion pump, for example, using a threaded engagement or snap fit engagement. As the dispensing end of the prefilled syringe is coupled to the syringe coupling region of the pump housing, a needle passes through the pump housing and/or a needle passage region of the dispensing end such that the prefilled syringe is fluidly coupled to a reservoir in the pump. In various embodiments, the needle may be located in the syringe coupling region or in a syringe cap coupled to the dispensing end of the prefilled syringe.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 2007Date of Patent: April 5, 2011Assignee: Insulet CorporationInventors: Jason Brian O'Connor, Luis Malave

Publication number: 20070169596Abstract: A collet chuck comprises a rotating cylinder block defining a cylindrical axis and an exterior cylindrical surface with first and second annular grooves. A collet and collet sleeve are at least partially surrounded by the rotating cylinder block. A piston slides within an annular interior space in the rotating cylinder block. A stationary port block has an interior cylindrical surface adjacent the exterior cylindrical surface of the rotating cylinder block and connects a first inlet port with a first annular groove and a second inlet port with the second annular groove. Switching pneumatic pressure between the first and second inlet ports moves the piston and collet sleeve between the clamping and unclamping positions and the gap between the rotating cylinder block and the stationary port block provides a frictionless seal.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 20, 2006Publication date: July 26, 2007Applicant: AEROTECH, INC.Inventor: Brian O'Connor

Publication number: 20070144412Abstract: A transportable incineration apparatus for burning wood and green waste comprises a trailer and a firebox mounted on the trailer by a suspension system operable to lift the firebox off of the ground for transport and to set the firebox onto the ground for incineration. The wheels of the trailer are mounted on independent torsion axles to increase the space available for the firebox. A system for generating an air curtain overtop the firebox reduces pollution resulting from incineration. The apparatus may be towed to an incineration location and used with minimal set up and take down time.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 22, 2005Publication date: June 28, 2007Inventor: Brian O'Connor
