  • Publication number: 20090137864
Abstract: A method of treating pelvic organ prolapse is provided. The method generally includes the steps of establishing a first pathway between the external perirectal region of the patient to the region of the ischial spine in tissue on one side of the prolapsed organ, followed by establishing a second pathway in tissue on the contralateral side of the prolapsed organ. A support member, which includes a central support portion and two end portions, is positioned in a position to reposition said prolapsed organ in said organ's anatomically correct location. The end portions of the support member are introduced through the respective tissue pathways, followed by adjustment of the end portions so that the support member is located in a therapeutic relationship to the prolapsed organ that is to be supported. An apparatus and kit for said treatment is further provided.

  • Patent number: 7374711
Abstract: Thin-walled rubber articles for use contact with living tissue or with materials to be delivered to living tissue are prepared from aqueous latex of either natural rubber or synthetic cis-1,4-polyisoprene by vulcanization to produce both carbon-carbon and carbon-(sulfur)n-carbon crosslinks, the vulcanization being performed in the absence of any compounding components that contain secondary amine groups or any components that have a tendency to produce nitrosamines. While sulfur activators may be included, it is preferable that no sulfur accelerators at all be included. Thin-walled rubber articles formed from the latex surprisingly exhibit a combination of high tensile strength, high ultimate percent elongation, and low 500% tensile modulus. The process is particularly effective in the manufacture of thin-walled articles from synthetic cis-1,4-polyisoprene.

  • Patent number: 7303525
Abstract: A sling assembly including a surgical sling configured to be implanted during a surgical sling procedure. The sling includes first and second regions and a central portion. The sling assembly further includes a removable sheath assembly situated about the surgical sling. The removable sheath assembly includes first and second upper sheaths. The first upper sheath is configured to be situated about the first region of the surgical sling, and the second upper sheath is configured to be situated about the second region of the surgical sling. The removable sheath assembly further includes a lower sheath. The lower sheath is configured to be situated about the central portion of the surgical sling and to be in cooperative association with both the first and second upper sheaths.

  • Patent number: 7198597
Abstract: The present invention provides a urethral prosthesis including a first and a second arm that join to form a junction, and a stem that is also joined to the junction. The junction is adapted to exert sufficient pressure on a portion of a patient's urethra to prevent unintentional voiding of the patient's bladder. However, upon exerting a tension force on the stem, the pressure exerted by the junction is reduced such that the patient's bladder may be intentionally voided.

  • Publication number: 20040249396
Abstract: An anatomical support adjustment and tension control article for use in applying a tensioning force to anatomical support material disposed therein. The tension control article preferably comprises a base member disposing a plurality of tensioning members extending therefrom. The tensioning members create a tortuous pathway thereby providing a tensioning force to anatomical support material positioned therebetween. Additionally, at least one of the plurality of tensioning members may be removed from the device to alter the supportive tension applied by the device. The anatomical support material may be disposed between the plurality of tensioning members in a number of ways, thereby resulting in varying amounts of supportive tension being applied by the device.

  • Publication number: 20040093030
Abstract: A bone anchor assembly having a bone screw and a suture attachment, with the suture attachment threaded to the bone screw with a pair of mating threads that are of the opposite hand from the bone-engaging thread of the bone screw. Overtravel clearance is provided between the bone screw and the suture attachment to permit rotation of the suture attachment with respect to the bone screw at least in the same direction as the direction of engagement of the mating threads. The suture attachment can be an eye bolt or an eye nut. A pilot boss is received in a pilot bore in the engaging portions of the bone anchor and suture attachment. The bone anchor and suture attachment are anodized implant grade titanium material.
