  • Patent number: 11940254
Abstract: A projectile designed to be lead-free and have a ballistic coefficient ranging from about 0.13 to about 0.80 or greater for enhanced energy/performance at extended ranges may have an elongated body formed with a jacket including a wall having an end defining an ogive portion and a cavity or recess defined within the jacket and in which a core is received. The projectile can be configured in various calibers and sizes. The projectile core may be formed from a plurality of core sections, and at least one of the plurality of core sections may include tungsten powder and a lead-free binder material pressed together to form a substantially cylindrical shape or compact. One or more of the core sections further can be sintered, and the one or more core sections may be received in an end-to-end relationship within the cavity defined by the jacket to form a stacked, sectional core.

  • Patent number: 9662847
Abstract: A tire building drum is disclosed having first and second sets of deck segments, disposed in an alternating configuration about a central shaft. Each of the segments is mounted to a pair of axially movable hub units via an associated scissor linkage. The scissor linkages of the first segments are slidably mounted to the hub units and biased toward a median plane of the tire building drum. When the hub units are separated, the second segments are disposed radially inwardly of and between the first segments. Movement of the hub units toward one another through a first range of motion expands the first deck segments to an expanded diameter of the drum, and movement of the hub units toward one another through a second range of motion expands the second deck segments to allow the second deck segments to be received between the first deck segments.

  • Patent number: 8689848
Abstract: This invention relates to a bead lock arrangement for use in tire building equipment, and to tire building equipment utilizing such a bead lock arrangement. A bead lock assembly is disclosed comprising first and second parallel, coaxial, axially spaced bead lock arrangements (13, 14), each bead lock arrangement including an annular, extensible, bead seating ring (38) encircling the radially movable segments (33) of the bead lock arrangement and having, at its radially outermost face, a circumferentially extending bead seating surface (39), and an annular sealing ring (42) positioned coaxial with the respective bead seating ring (38) and disposed adjacent a side face of the respective bead seating ring (38) presented generally towards the bead seating ring (38) of the opposing bead lock arrangement. The use of a bead seating ring (38) and a separately formed sealing ring (42) has considerable advantages over the use of a conventional bead seating ring.

  • Patent number: 8555944
Abstract: The “Anti-Flex Assembly” is an assembly for maintaining axial stability in a rotatable, expandable and collapsible drum used in tire manufacturing. A cylindrical rod with at least one helical groove is defined in the outer surface of the cylindrical rod and at least one hardened dowel is aligned so as to protrude into the helical groove of the cylindrical rod. A means to maintain the orientation and protrusion of the hardened dowel protruding into the helical groove(s), and a clamping lock is provided to lock the cylindrical rod in place once the desired width of the rotatable, expandable and collapsible drum has been set, thus providing axial stability of the rotatable, expandable and collapsible drum during tire carcass manufacturing.

  • Patent number: 8272417
Abstract: A rotary radial expand collapse tire building drum comprises segments defining an outer circumference of said drum, said segments being divided into two sets, one set being located to each opposite side of a transverse central plane of the drum, said central plane being disposed normal to a rotational axis of the drum, said two sets being adapted to be driven by a rotatable hub assembly between a collapsed position in which a formed tire carcass may be removed from the drum and an expanded position in which a tire carcass may be formed on said drum wherein each set of segments are mounted for selective relative axial using positioning means, and adjustment means is located outside of the rotational axis of the drum, which is arranged to adjust an overall working width of said drum. The invention allows for an axial positioning mechanism of a REC building drum.

  • Publication number: 20120033906
Abstract: A bearing axle adapted to rotatably secure a mounting ring between opposing interior surfaces of respective spaced apart first and second housing rings of a tire transfer ring and to allow removal of the bearing axle from between the housing rings absent additional separation of the housing rings is disclosed. The bearing axle comprises an elongated shaft sized and shaped to extend between and terminate along the housing ring interior surfaces and at least one releasable fastener for securing the shaft between the housing ring interior surfaces. A roller bearing is mounted on the shaft and is adapted to engage the mounting ring to allow the mounting ring to rotate in relation to the housing rings. Release of the fastener allows the shaft to slide from between the housing ring interior surfaces absent additional separation of the housing rings.

  • Publication number: 20120017720
Abstract: A bearing expansion lock useful in locking linear axial movement of a push-pull rod driven by a potential energy source, where the push-pull rod is housed in a hollow shaft, is disclosed. A hollow elongated housing is provided to be mounted along an axial dimension of the hollow shaft. A shaft subassembly is received within the housing and adapted to be interposed between an outboard end of the push-pull rod and the potential energy source. The shaft subassembly is reconfigurable between a first position in which the shaft subassembly is braced against slidable movement within the housing along the hollow shaft and a second position in which the shaft subassembly is slidable within the housing along the central shaft. Configuration of the shaft subassembly in the first position restricts movement of the shaft subassembly along the housing, thereby restricting movement of the push-pull rod along the hollow shaft.

  • Publication number: 20090056879
Abstract: A tyre building drum is disclosed having first and second sets of deck segments, the segments (11, 12) of the sets alternating in a circumferential direction in the expanded deck, such that a pair of segments of said first set lie immediately circumferentially adjacent, and on opposite circumferential sides respectively of each segment of the second set and vice-versa, the axially extending edges (12a) of the segments (12) of said second set each including a circumferentially extending protrusion which underlies the deck surface of the adjacent segment of the first set, whereby the expanded segments interlock to resist radial loading on the deck in a direction to collapse the deck. The drum construction provides a high degree of lateral and radial deck stability and accuracy.

  • Publication number: 20070068631
Abstract: A roller turn up mechanism for the forming of a bead section in a tyre built on a tyre building drum is disclosed. It is known to provide a tyre building drum with two ring segments each placed on opposing sides of a central axis, means to expand that part of the tyre material between the ring segments, and means on each side of the ring segments to press that part of the tyre material outside of the ring segments against the expanded part of the tyre material within the ring segments, thereby to wrap each bead ring within the tyre carcass formed thereby. The pressing of that part of the tyre material outside of the ring segments may be performed by a plurality of rollers mounted on equiangularly spaced pivoting arms disposed axially about the tyre building drum. However, there is a tendency as the roller arms are driven up the sides of the carcass being formed for the roller arms to diverge causing problems in manufacture.
