  • Patent number: 5122512
Abstract: Porcine somatotropin (pST) and dietary lysine are administered in combination in dosages of from about 1-20 mg/swine/day pST and from about 0.9-1.6% by weight dietary lysine to synergistically promote growth, improve weight gain and increase feed utilization efficiency in swine. Administration of the compounds is conveniently accomplished by (1) administering porcine somatotropin (pST) to swine using conventional methods such as injections or implants and (2) feeding the swine a feed composition containing the lysine.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 12, 1988
Date of Patent: June 16, 1992
    Assignee: Pitman-Moore, Inc.
    Inventor: Brian R. Schricker
  • Patent number: 4976963
Abstract: A pelletized feed supplement is supplied which effectively increases productivity of animals fed high acid producing diets. The pelletized feed supplement can also be used to neutralize stomach acid of humans and to maintain a proper electrolyte balance. A method is taught of producing the pelletized feed supplement which results in a buffering agent which is dissolved gradually, and has a high buffering capacity.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 2, 1989
Date of Patent: December 11, 1990
    Assignee: Pitman-Moore, Inc.

  • Patent number: 4857332
Abstract: A composition for synergistically increasing milk fat production in ruminants comprising (1) pellets which comprise an antacid selected from the group consisting of sodium and magnesium antacids and an electrolyte selected from the group consisting of potassium, sodium, and chlorine containing electrolytes, said pellets containing potassium, sodium, and chlorine in a weight ratio of from about 1.5 to about 1.8 parts of potassium and from about 1.2 to about 1.5 parts of chlorine per part of sodium, said potassium being present in sufficient amount to provide from about 0.8 to about 1 weight parts of potassium per weight part of any magnesium present and (2) sodium bicarbonate.

  • Patent number: 4670248
Abstract: The present invention relates to a bolus adapted to be orally administered to ruminants. The bolus contains a mixture of a magnesium silicate, a binder, and a rumen-soluble material. The bolus of the present invention provides for the controlled release of supplemental magnesium as a means of preventing and combatting the disease known as hypomaganesemia. Optionally, the bolus of the present invention can serve as a carrier for various biologically active substances.
