  • Patent number: 6712249
Abstract: A backpack entertainment system with detachable speaker pockets is provided. The speaker pockets can be detached from the backpack and positioned separately therefrom to provide an enhanced stereo sound quality and/or ambience. Audio equipment within the backpack is connected to the speakers. The speaker pockets preferably comprise canvas or other like material, and can be quickly and easily attached to and detached from the backpack by zippers or other similar means.

  • Publication number: 20030109037
Abstract: We propose here that endogenous stem/progenitor cells of the developing or adult nervous system be genetically modified in situ, to express therapeutically advantageous gene products. Furthermore, we propose here that endogenous or other exogenous stem cells or their progeny be genetically modified when appropriate to express advantageous gene products (and/or modified through culture techniques), and that, if exogenously derived, they be transplanted into the ventricular system of the patient nervous system, the germinal zone of the ventricular system, into postmitotic regions of the CNS or other organs.

  • Patent number: 6233325
Abstract: Calling party identification announcement service (CPIAS) provides an announcement of the caller's name to a called party, so that the called party may accept of reject a call. This invention relates to arrangements for providing CPIAS using centralized announcement synthesis apparatus, under the control of a data base (in accordance with the principles of intelligent networks), within the basic call processing arrangements of the public switched telephone network, without requiring users of the services to have two telephone numbers. Billing entries for the use of the announcement service are made under the control of the terminating switch so that these entries can be readily combined with other billing entries for the called party in order to generate a bill for that party.

  • Patent number: 5680762
Abstract: An hydraulic circuit controlling an actuator including a main signal branch which includes a pump (11), a valve (12) and an actuator (18) coupled in series, the valve being responsive to first and second applied biasing pressures (19,23), the first biasing pressure being operable to bias the valve (12) into a closed position and the second biasing pressure being operable to bias the valve into an open position; an auxiliary branch (20,21,22) connected in parallel with the actuator (18); the first biasing pressure (19) being derived from the main signal branch downstream of the valve (12) and the second biasing pressure being derived from the auxiliary branch.

  • Patent number: 5380195
Abstract: A safety flare for combustion of waste gases is described which includes a container having an interior and an exterior. The interior is defined by a bottom and peripheral sidewalls. A vent stack extends through the interior of the container. The vent stack has a first end and a second end. The first end communicates with the exterior of the container adjacent the bottom. The second end extends past a top peripheral edge of the peripheral sidewalls of the container. Means is provided for permitting the communication of combustion air with the first end of the vent stack. A burner is positioned immediately surrounding the second end of the vent stack such that the burner is supplied with combustion air by the vent stack. The burner has a plurality of downwardly directed nozzles such that liquids passing through the nozzles fall by force of gravity into the interior of the container. This safety flare is intended to replace flare stacks and flare pits formerly used in the oil and gas industry.
