  • Patent number: 10854340
Abstract: Various embodiments relate to a network device (such as a patient monitoring device) and related method and non-transitory media including one or more of the following: a wireless communication interface; patient monitoring hardware for measuring at least one physiological parameter of a patient; and a processor configured to: provide a protocol stack for enabling communication via the wireless communication interface, transmit the at least one physiological parameter via the protocol stack and the wireless communication interface, request wireless access point (AP) information about a plurality of APs from the protocol stack, generate a connectivity report based on the AP information, and transmit the connectivity report to a remote server via the protocol stack and the wireless communication interface.

  • Patent number: 10475320
Abstract: A mobile patient monitoring device (10) includes a radio (14) having a scan threshold and a roam threshold that is lower or equal to than the scan threshold. The radio (14) is configured to scan to identify available access points when current access point power is below the scan threshold but above the roam threshold and roam to an available access point when current access point power is below the roam threshold. An accelerometer (12) is configured to measure acceleration. Device electronics (16) include at least one processor (24, 28) programmed to classify patient movement from the acceleration measured by the accelerometer and to assign values for the scan and the roam thresholds of the radio (14) based on the patient movement classification. Alternatively, the device electronics (16) may assign the values for the scan and the roam thresholds of the radio (14) based on received vital sign data acquired from an associated physiological sensor (32).

  • Publication number: 20190288796
Abstract: Methods and systems for wirelessly transmitting data. Various embodiments determine whether at least one condition is present that affects the ability to wirelessly transmit data. If at least one condition is present, a processor enables a duplicate packet transmittal procedure that transmits at least one previously transmitted data packet.

  • Publication number: 20180302189
Abstract: A wireless medical device (10) includes at least one physiological sensor (12) configured to measure a vital sign or a physiological parameter data and a wireless transceiver (24). At least one processor (22, 24, 34) is programmed to: construct a data stream comprising a sequence of data packets, the data packets containing physiological parameter data acquired by the at least one physiological sensor; operate the wireless transceiver to transmit the data stream to an associated monitoring station (14) via a wireless communication channel (18); receive a gap report from the associated monitoring station identifying at least one missing data packet of the data stream that was not received at the associated monitoring station; and re-transmit the at least one missing data packet identified by the gap report to the associated monitoring station via the wireless communication channel.

  • Publication number: 20070255120
Abstract: A method and device for communicating physiological or control data between a portable device and an information system via telemetry. The system includes at least one portable device, and usually many, each having an I/O port for bidirectionally communicating physiological or control data in the form of IP data packets via telemetry. The portable device in operation includes a layered network interface that supports a standard internet-based networking protocol (IP) stack and PHY and MAC layers. The system also includes an information system connected to a wired network through a networking switch, and having a port for bidirectionally communicating data via telemetry with the portable device. The access point may include a program that converts the IP data packets between the RF PHY and MAC and network, such as Ethernet, PHY and MAC layers and further may include a server such as a BOOTP/DHCP server to support a dynamic assignment of an IP address to a number of portable devices.
