  • Patent number: 10336639
Abstract: A portable water treatment system includes at least one sub-system to treat water including a flocculation system, a chlorination system, and a bio-sand filter system. The water treatment system may include multiple sub-systems for treating water that feed into one another. The sand filter system may include a mini bio-sand filter, a foam filter, or a pressed block filter. The flocculation system may include a tank bottom that urges settling particles toward a sump and a ladle that removes settled particles. A manual pump or siphon may be included in the water treatment system.
    Type: Grant

  • Publication number: 20130294478
Abstract: Testing devices and methods for detecting defects in block filters using temperature differences created by a fluid flow are provided. The testing is relatively fast, inexpensive, and non-destructive, which may allow for testing a relatively large sampling of filters, and possibly all filters produced in a manufacturing process. In one embodiment, the device includes a fluid drive system adapted to create a fluid flow through the filter media. A thermal imaging system is configured to take a thermal image of the filter media. A portion of the filter media without a defect may have a different temperature than a portion of the filter media with a defect. In this manner, a temperature difference detected by the thermal imaging system may indicate that the filter media has a defect. The device may include a fixture for supporting the filter, and may allow for manual or automatic rotation of the filter.

  • Patent number: 6656109
Abstract: A suction retractor that provides support to and positions an organ for surgery is provided. This retractor includes a support surface, a plurality of suction elements disposed adjacent the support surface, at least one leash operatively attached to the support surface; and at least one suction tube operatively connected with the suction elements. A method for using the retractor to manipulate an organ during surgery is also provided.

  • Patent number: 6524296
Abstract: A vessel cannula having properties varying along the axial length thereof is shown. In one embodiment, the cannula has a relatively rigid distal portion and a relatively flaccid, pliable, proximal portion and a lumen extending through both the rigid and flaccid portions. A cannula with this structure is ideally suited for use in minimally invasive cardiac surgical procedures when it is desired to perform a distal perfusion of a coronary artery.
