Patent number: 11963691Abstract: A surgical instrument, has an end effector that includes an ultrasonic blade, and a clamp arm that moves relative to the ultrasonic blade from an opened position toward an intermediate position and a closed position. The clamp arm is offset from the ultrasonic blade to define a predetermined gap in the intermediate position between the opened position and the closed position. A clamp arm actuator connects to the clamp arm and moves from an opened configuration to a closed configuration to direct the clamp arm from the opened position toward the intermediate position and the closed position. A spacer connects with the clamp arm to inhibit movement of the clamp arm from the intermediate position toward the closed position for maintaining the predetermined gap between the clamp arm and the ultrasonic blade.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 2020Date of Patent: April 23, 2024Assignee: Cilag GmbH InternationalInventors: Ryan M. Publication number: 20240005063Abstract: A system includes a storage device, a processor, and an output device. The storage device is configured to store first results generated by perturbations of a structure, and store input parameters of a model of the structure. The processor is configured to generate results by exercising the model with the perturbations, and train a neural network to replicate the second results. The neural network includes input nodes and output nodes. A subset of the input nodes represent the input parameters. The output nodes represent the second results. The processor is further configured to run a propagation through the neural network as inverted from the output nodes to the input nodes to identify the input parameters that impact the second results, and generate gradient values that represent how the second results deviate from the first results. The output device is configured to present a gradient graph of the gradient values.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 30, 2022Publication date: January 4, 2024Applicant: The Boeing CompanyInventors: Brian S. Patent number: 10502622Abstract: A custom application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) may provide strong signal integrity while reducing the load to a thermal system. Control and analog-to-digital conversion may be pushed into components close to the detector to maximize signal integrity. Processing functions may be performed at relatively high temperature, or the highest allowable temperatures, simplifying the system-level thermal design by not cooling components that do not require such cooling to function.Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 2017Date of Patent: December 10, 2019Inventors: Brian S. Smith, Markus Loose, Atul Joshi, Greg T. Alkire, Daniel P. Kelly, Edward S. Cheng

Patent number: 9949137Abstract: In some implementations, a server device can improve Wi-Fi based location availability for sparse signal locations by augmenting Wi-Fi access point location data with additional Wi-Fi scan data that was collected near the sparse signal locations. The server can receive Wi-Fi access point scans from client devices, determine the locations of the Wi-Fi access points, and generate Wi-Fi access point tiles that include data describing the locations of access points in the geographic areas corresponding to the Wi-Fi access point tiles. After the tiles are generated, the server device can augment the access point tiles by inserting additional Wi-Fi access point scan information into the access point tiles near identified sparse signal locations. The server device can deliver the augmented access point tile data to a client device. The client device can determine the current location of the client device based on the augmented access point tile data.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 2016Date of Patent: April 17, 2018Assignee: APPLE INC.Inventors: Brian S. Smith, David B. Millman, Rob Brumley, Rob Mayor, Ben Detwiler
