  • Publication number: 20090037515
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a system and method which allows for the transfer of data captured by one device to be processed and moved to another location in accordance with pre-established criteria without requiring user interaction at the time of data capture. In one embodiment, images from a camera-equipped phone are transferred to a personal computer through a file server in accordance with pre-established guidelines. The camera-equipped phone generates a digital image, for example by taking a digital photo with a built-in or attached camera, and transmits the digital image over a standard wireless network, for example the cellular GSM/GPRS network, to a file server. The file server receives the digital data from the camera-equipped phone and forwards the data to a pre-identified location, such as the user's personal computer (or to an image processing facility) through the Internet.

  • Patent number: 6295092
Abstract: A system that automatically captures one or more local news program broadcasts and separates the broadcasts into the individual news stories or segments. The system then compares the stories to historical data concerning the competitive characteristics of the stories for each station and determines the topic (local, national, crime, etc.), talent (newscaster 1, newscaster 2, etc.) and production (live, studio, voice-over-tape, etc.) characteristics of the stories. Other characteristics that affect the popularity and therefor the competitive characteristics of the broadcasts can also be displayed, such as pacing, average story length, news-to-advertisement ratio, broadcast ordering (news then weather then news then sports, etc.), etc.

  • Patent number: 6258180
Abstract: Austempered ductile iron castings having primary iron carbides uniformly dispersed throughout an ausferritic matrix, and methods of making the same, are described. The dissolution of the primary iron carbides into the ausferritic matrix during the austempering process is prevented or lessened by altering the chemical composition of the ductile iron, employing a stabilizing agent, by altering the processing parameters of the austempering process, or any combination thereof.

  • Patent number: 5809808
Abstract: A transmission for a washing machine includes a housing, an agitator shaft rotatably mounted to the housing, and an input shaft rotatably mounted to the housing. A one-way clutch connects the input shaft and the housing which permits relative rotation between the input shaft and the housing in a first direction and prevents relative rotation between the input shaft and the housing in a second direction. An agitation system connects the input shaft and the agitator shaft whereby rotation of the input shaft relative to the housing provides back-and-forth agitation of the agitator shaft. A one-way clutch ball bearing rotatably and axially supports the housing. The one-way clutch ball bearing is a sprag type-clutch which prevents rotation of the housing in the first direction and permits rotation of the housing in the second direction.

  • Patent number: 5412756
Abstract: An artificial intelligence software shell for plant operation simulation includes a blackboard module including a database having objects representing plant elements and concepts. A rule-based knowledge source module and a case-based knowledge source module, in communication with the blackboard module, operate on specific predefined blackboard objects. A user interface module, in communication with the blackboard module, enables a user to view blackboard status information. A control module, in communication with the blackboard module and the knowledge source modules, receives input data and controls operation of the knowledge source modules in accordance with a predetermined knowledge source priority scheme.

  • Patent number: 5402524
Abstract: An artificial intelligence software shell for plant operation simulation includes a blackboard module including a database having objects representing plant elements and concepts. A rule-based knowledge source module and a case-based knowledge source module, in communication with the blackboard module, operate on specific predefined blackboard objects. The case-based knowledge source module includes cases having past data points on a time scale. Present data is compared with the past data in the cases both on a time scale and on a magnitude scale for determining levels of closeness in time and magnitude. An input data module, in communication with the blackboard module, enables a user to input data to the shell. A control module, in communication with the knowledge source modules and the input data module, receives all input data and controls operation of the knowledge source modules in accordance with a predetermined knowledge source priority scheme.
