Patent number: 11969797Abstract: A syntactic metal foam composite that is substantially fully dense except for syntactic porosity is formed from a mixture of ceramic microballoons and matrix forming metal. The ceramic microballoons have a uniaxial crush strength and a much higher omniaxial crush strength. The mixture is continuously constrained while it is consolidated. The constraining force is less than the omniaxial crush strength. The substantially fully dense syntactic metal foam composite is then constrained and deformation worked at a substantially constant volume. The deformation working is typically performed at a yield strength that is adjusted by way of selecting a working temperature at which the yield strength is approximately less than the omniaxial crush strength of the included ceramic microballoons. This deformation causes at least work hardening and grain refinement in the matrix metal.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 2021Date of Patent: April 30, 2024Assignee: Powdermet, Inc.Inventors: Andrew Sherman, Brian Doud

Publication number: 20240077046Abstract: A centerbody assembly includes a center tube, a forward bulkhead, an aft bulkhead, at least one baffle, and an outer skin. The center tube extends circumferentially about an axial centerline. The center tube extends between and to a first axial tube end and a second axial tube end. The forward bulkhead is mounted to the center tube at the first axial tube end. The aft bulkhead is mounted to the center tube at the second axial tube end. The at least one baffle extends axially from the forward bulkhead to the aft bulkhead. At least the forward bulkhead, the aft bulkhead, or the at least one baffle include one or more thermal beads. The outer skin circumscribes the center tube, the forward bulkhead, the aft bulkhead, and the at least one baffle to form an acoustic cavity radially inside the outer skin.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 2, 2022Publication date: March 7, 2024Inventors: David Gaul, Aleksandar Ratajac, Victor A. Patent number: 11562608Abstract: Embodiments of the present application generally relate to controlling ingress/egress through entryway devices. More particularly, but not exclusively, embodiments of the present invention relate to attaining confirmation of intent relating to access to a controlled opening. According to certain embodiments, the credential device and/or the user of the credential device is prompted to provide a response, or otherwise is to perform certain actions, that can demonstrate a confirmation of intent to gain access to the controlled opening. Such responses and/or actions can be evaluated to determine authority to gain access to the controlled opening. Further, such intent confirmation events may, depending on the embodiment, be performed before or after credential information is communicated from the credential device and/or before or after pairing of the access control device and the credential device.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 2021Date of Patent: January 24, 2023Assignee: Schlage Lock Company LLCInventors: Jeremy Earles, Joseph W. Publication number: 20070135998Abstract: The invention relates to methods of modulating the antigen-binding affinity of an antibody by determining, using data corresponding to the structure of a complex between the antibody and an antigen in a solvent, a representation of a charge distribution of the CDRs of the antibody which minimizes electrostatic contribution to binding free energy between the antibody and the antigen in a solvent. Guided by these determinations, the antibody is accordingly modified (altered) to improve upon, e.g., antibody/antigen binding by modifying at least one amino acid residue to decrease the binding free energy between the antibody and antigen when bound in a solvent.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 24, 2006Publication date: June 14, 2007Applicants: Biogen Idec MA Inc., MASSACHUSETTS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGYInventors: Herman Van Vlijmen, Brian Sherman, Alexey Lugovskoy

Publication number: 20050204688Abstract: A stackable building wall unit adapted to be stacked with a plurality of identical building wall units in a plane to form a wall comprising three rectangular panels each including inner and outer faces, a pair of spaced apart long edges, and a pair of spaced apart short edges joined to the short edges of the other two panels to form a triangular, stackable building wall unit which can be stacked with the exterior surfaces of the panels in abutting relation. The exterior face of at least one of the panels includes a female recess therein for receiving a complementally formed key to facilitate alignment and preclude relative shifting of the stacked units in a direction extending between said long edges between the long edges. The key may suitably comprise a complementally formed male projection extending outwardly from another panel of an abutting unit.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 18, 2005Publication date: September 22, 2005Inventor: Brian Sherman

Publication number: 20050055187Abstract: The modeling of two or more related systems is enhanced by combining physical and virtual modeling techniques to create an interactive modeling system. In the presence of one model, the manipulation of a second model has an impact on the characteristics of both models. User manipulation of a virtual model on a simulation software system changes the characteristics of a physical model through a feedback system, which may be in the form of a haptic arm connected to the physical model. The invention also represents the docking of two models, such as the docking of two molecular systems, and to have the results of this docking represented in the physical and virtual models.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 10, 2004Publication date: March 10, 2005Inventors: Brian Sherman, David Green, Karl Ruping

Publication number: 20050004764Abstract: Modeling systems are enhanced by combining physical and virtual modeling techniques to create a hybrid modeling system. Manipulation of physical models results in updated real-time physical characteristics being provided to a virtual model. User manipulation of virtual model characteristics can also be provided and implemented on the physical model using actuators and control devices. The invention also enables multiple users to simultaneously construct and manipulate different portions of a physical model, e.g., of an atom or a molecule, and to have the results of these manipulations provided to a computer system for computational analysis. The results of such analyses can be electronically returned to the physical model, e.g., wirelessly.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 31, 2003Publication date: January 6, 2005Applicant: MolySym, Inc.Inventors: Brian Sherman, David Green, Karl Ruping
