Abstract: In one embodiment, a home automation interface device (e.g., an in-wall or table-top keypad, a smartphone, a remote control, a remote control base station, etc.) is used as an interface for accessing processes and/or agents that include a generative AI engine. The home automation interface device receives natural language input from a user indicating a desired change to a home automation service, and passes the natural language input to processes and/or agents that include the generative AI engine. The generative AI engine produces structured data including function calls and/or service requests with related arguments, and processes and/or agents then cause the function calls and/or service requests to be executed by a home automation controller to implement the desired change to the home automation service. The home automation interface device may itself also function as the home automation controller.
