  • Patent number: 9708728
Abstract: A process for the growth of new, and difficult-to-synthesize, metal oxide, and other mixed anion oxide-based, single crystals from a molten metal flux. Metal fluxes are new for the growth of metal oxide single crystals. Preliminary reactions proved that new phases and phases that normally require costly, extreme conditions do grow as single crystals. Batches of individual reactions are heat-treated to synthesize single crystals comprised of oxygen with one or more transition, alkaline-earth and/or lanthanide metals, and can also include other anions like chalcogens or pnictogens, or halides. The reactivity and the propensity for crystallization of charge compensated single crystals from alkaline earth fluxes have been made evident by the results presented here.

  • Patent number: 9676508
Abstract: An in-bottle aerator for mixing the oxygen in the air with wine as the wine is poured from its bottle. The aerator has at least one air ingress channel extending from one end of the aerator to the other, allowing air into the bottle to displace wine exiting the bottle. Air mixing channels draw air from outside the bottle and direct that air to lateral channels that intersect a central flow channel extending from one end of the bottle to another. The air mixing and air ingress channels are preferably arranged to allow the user to pour and aerate wine at the same time and with the bottle in any orientation about its axis. The aerator may be a separately formed component that can be inserted into the bottle by the bottle manufacturer, by a wine bottler or by an enduser. Alternatively, the aerator may be wholly or partly formed as part of the neck of the bottle. A completely and integrally formed aerator may be formed as a part of a plastic wine bottle.

  • Patent number: 9619554
Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable storage media for providing query-completion suggestions configured to be searched against vertical information domains in response to receiving a general web search query are provided. At least a portion of a general web search query is received. As the portion of the general web search query is received, query-completion suggestions are determined as is a likely primary intent associated with at least a portion of the determined query-completion suggestions. If the likely primary intent associated with a particular query-completion suggestion is for information associated with a particular vertical information domain other than the general web domain, the query-completion suggestion is provided such that selection thereof causes searching of the query-completion suggestion against the particular information domain for search results.

  • Publication number: 20170046356
Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable storage media for providing task-oriented query-completion suggestions are provided. A portion of a search query is received, for instance, via a query-input region or search box presented in association with a general web search domain. As the portion of the search query is received, it is determined that the received search query portion is suggestive of a task-oriented user intent. Also determined are query-completion suggestions that are associated with the task-oriented user intent of which the search query portion is suggestive. The determined query-completion suggestions are then provided to the user. As query-completion suggestions are surfaced with input of short character sequences that are associated with task-oriented user intents, users can quickly be provided the relevant, rich content for completing their intended tasks.

  • Publication number: 20130229440
Abstract: One or more techniques and/or systems are provided for selecting images to represent tiles within a visualization and/or for creating a visually diverse visualization. That is, images for tiles within a visualization may be selected and/or modified based upon state information associate with such tiles (e.g., current time, current location, device resolution, current weather conditions, current image comprised within a tile, etc.). In this way, a set of visually diverse tiles may be created, such that adjacent tiles may be represented by visually diverse images. For example, tiles within a weather application may represent weather conditions for days of a week. If two adjacent tiles comprise visually similar images (e.g., images depicting a single cloud), then at least one of the images may be modified (e.g., to an image of four clouds) so that the two adjacent tiles may appear visually dissimilar within the weather application.

  • Publication number: 20130232148
Abstract: One or more techniques and/or systems are provided for mapping content to a carousel interface in a manner that allows a user to more intuitively navigate through and/or interact with such content. The carousel interface may be associated with a domain (e.g., a map directions domain, a news domain, etc.). One or more categories associated with the domain may be identified (e.g., a sports news category, a health news category, etc.). In one example, entities (e.g., a Professional Sports Team and/or other proper nouns) and/or topics (e.g., 2012 Olympics) may be identified for respective categories. In this way, content associated with the one or more categories, entities, and/or topics may be retrieved and/or populated within one or more carousels of the carousel interface in an intuitive manner (e.g., sports articles may be populated within a sports carousel, health articles may be populated within a health carousel, etc.).

  • Patent number: 8335784
Abstract: Methods, systems, graphical user interfaces, and computer-readable media for visually searching and exploring a set of objects are provided. A computer system executes a method that generates three-dimensional representations or two-dimensional representations for a set of objects in response to a user interaction with an interface that displays the three-dimensional representations or the two-dimensional representations. The interface includes filter controls, sorting controls, and classification controls, which are dynamically altered based on the content of a user query or the attributes of the objects in the three-dimensional representations or two-dimensional representations.

  • Patent number: 6051775
Abstract: The device for tensioning sheet material applies a tensioning force around he outer edge of a sheet material to prevent the sheet material from wrinkling. These devices are attached to a supporting member forming the outer frame of a structure upon which the sheet material is to be attached and consist of tape strips or wires attached to or free sliding along the support member, sheet material of a differing material wrapped around the support member and attached to the main sheet material, with or without holes or slots, and extensions of the main sheet material around the support member, with or without heat created depressions along the border to relieve tearing stresses. Another tensioning member is a corner brace between perpendicular segments of the supporting member to remove wrinkles caused by manufacturing irregularities.

  • Patent number: 5885367
Abstract: A solar concentrator having flexible retractable reflector panels of a thin lastic film coated with aluminum or silver configured as a trough along the long edges of the solar panel and tilted so as to direct the reflected sunlight onto the solar panel in such a manner that the ray from the extreme outer edge of a reflector panel will fall on the edge of the opposite side of the solar panel, resulting in an even distribution of reflected sunlight on the solar panel for optimum performance. The flexible reflector panels are stowed during launch by rolling them around the booms or around themselves. For launch, the booms with the reflector panel rolled thereon, are stowed against the long edges of the solar panel. After launch, the booms are extended to a an angular position respective to the solar panel, by a system of pulleys and wires that keep tension on the reflector panels as the reflector panels are deployed as the plurality of sections of the solar panel are extended to a flat position.
