    Abstract: A mechanical fastener such as a bolt or a nut for a bolt bears on its surface at least one indicium of at least one characteristic of the mechanical fastener, preferably including at least the thread diameter. As a result, such fasteners are more readily separated from similar appearing fasteners with which they may become mingled, and mistakes arising from inadvertent mismatching of two parts of a threaded fastener are minimized.
