Abstract: Antifoams based on oil-in-water emulsions, in which the oil phase accounts for from 5 to 50% by weight of the emulsions and consists essentially of a mixture of(a) fatty esters of C.sub.12 -C.sub.22 -carboxylic acids with monohydric to trihydric C.sub.1 -C.sub.22 -alcohols,(b) polyglyceryl esters which are obtainable by at least 20% esterification of polyglycerols which contain at least 2 glyceryl units with at least one C.sub.12 -C.sub.36 -fatty acid and(c) fatty esters of C.sub.12 -C.sub.22 -carboxylic acids and polyalkylene glycols, the molecular weight of the polyalkylene glycols being up to 5,000 g/mol, and, if required,(d) long-chain alcohols, fatty esters of alcohols of at least 22 carbon atoms and C.sub.1 -C.sub.36 -carboxylic acids, distillation residues which are obtainable in the preparation of alcohols having a relatively large number of carbon atoms by oxo synthesis or by the Ziegler process and which may be alkoxylated, and/or(e) hydrocarbons having a boiling point above 200.degree. C.

Abstract: Abstract of the Disclosure: A process for tanning leather comprises using for this purpose compounds of the general formula I ##STR1## where m is 0 or 1, and the radicalsR are independently of each other C.sub.1 -C.sub.18 -alkyl, which may be substituted by hydroxyl or carboxyl and/or interrupted by oxygen atoms, or else one of the radicals R is a radical of the formula ##STR2## where R.sup.1 is alkylene, which may be substituted by hydroxyl and/or interrupted by oxygen atoms.

Abstract: Condensation polymers of sulfonated phenols, urea, other organic nitrogen-bases and formaldehyde, obtainable by(A) sulfonation of phenols with from 1.0 to 1.5 moles of sulfuric acid per mole of phenol and(B) condensation of these sulfonation products with(a) from 0.5 to 1.8 moles of urea per mole of phenol,(b) from 0.001 to 0.5 moles of at least one other organic nitrogen-base per mole of phenol, and(c) from 1.0 to 3.0 moles of formaldehyde per mole of phenol.The condensation polymers are suitable for use as tanning agents in the leather and skin-producing industry and as spraying aids for redispersible polymer powders.

Abstract: Antifoams for the paper industry are based on oil-in-water emulsions in which the oil phase accounts for from 5 to 50% by weight of the emulsion and contains(a) an alcohol of not less than 12 carbon atoms, fatty esters of alcohols of not less than 22 carbon atoms and C.sub.1 -C.sub.36 -carboxylic acids, distillation residues which are obtainable in the preparation of alcohols having a relatively large number of carbon atoms by the oxo synthesis or by the Ziegler method and which may be alkoxylated, a mixture of the stated compounds and/or(b) a fatty ester of a C.sub.12 -C.sub.22 -carboxylic acid with a monohydric to trihydric C.sub.1 -C.sub.18 -alcohol and, if required,(c) a hydrocarbon having a boiling point above 200.degree. C.
