  • Patent number: 8096731
Abstract: A connection assembly for connecting sub-sea lines and devices includes a stab receptacle assembly and a stab assembly. The stab receptacle assembly includes a receptacle body and an outlet assembly, which in turn, includes an adapter nipple configured for attachment to the first sub-sea line. A swivel flange secures the adapter nipple to the first side of the receptacle body. The use of the adapter nipple and swivel flange eliminates a difficult weld between the adapter nipple and the receptacle body. The connection assembly further includes a stab assembly that has a base, a line end connected to the base and a stab body connected to the base. The stab body is configured for insertion into the stab receptacle. The line end is configured for connection to the second sub-sea line.

  • Patent number: 5273108
Abstract: Blow-out prevention apparatus consisting of a body housing having upper and lower annular chambers opening on an axial bore that provides communication into the wellbore. First and second toroidal-type packers are then arrayed around each of the upper and lower annular chambers, and an insert packer cylinder including upper and lower sleeve packers is disposed within the axial bore with upper and lower sleeve packers adjacent respective first and second toroidal packers. Upon emergency activation, the first and second toroidal packers are expanded inward to force the upper and lower sleeve packers inward thereby closing off the axial bore. An injector is then actuatable to provide rapid injection of a viscous plugging agent into the central void between the upper and lower sleeve packers.

  • Patent number: 5205325
Abstract: A flow control valve assembly is provided which, when connected to a rotatable drill string, prevents drainage of fluid from a standpipe and rotary hose of a drilling rig when fluid flow through the drill string is interrupted. The flow control valve assembly comprises a tubular body member or housing having a fluid flow passage extensive therethrough and a flow control valve supported within the fluid flow passage of the tubular body member. The flow control valve, which is a self-contained pressurized unit, is provided with an annular pressure cavity so that the flow control valve can be selectively opened and closed in response to pressure differential between the annular pressure cavity and the pressure of fluid in the fluid flow passage of the tubular body member.

  • Patent number: 4811758
Abstract: An improved pressurized fluid check valve is provided which, when incorporated into a drill string powered by a rotary table of a drilling rig, prevents drainage of fluid from the stand pipe and rotary hose when the flow of fluid through the drill string is interrupted, such as during the attachment of another section of drill pipe to the drill string. The improved pressurized fluid check valve comprises (a) a tubular body member having a bore extensive therethrough between first and second end portions thereof, the bore having an enlarged medial portion forming a valve chamber; (b) a flow restricting assembly supported within the valve chamber of the tubular body member for selectively closing the valve chamber to fluid flow in a pressurized mode; and (c) a loading valve supported in an access bore formed through the side wall of the body member so as to communicate with the valve chamber.
