  • Patent number: 10077875
Abstract: A light-emitting diode lamp includes an optically-transparent lens and an assembly. The lens includes a parabolic section defined about an axis and having a focus. The section includes a surface extending from the axis to a periphery of the section at a first end of the section, and a channel extending along the axis partially inside the section at a second end of the section. The assembly includes a chip and a dome. The chip is disposed in the channel at the focus of the section. The dome is disposed in the channel forming an interior space between the dome and the lens. The space is filled with an optically-transparent material having an index of refraction approximately equal to an index of refraction of the lens that eliminates or reduces effect of an optical interface between the material and the lens on direction of light emitted by the chip.

Abstract: A light-emitting diode (LED) lamp includes and optically-transparent lens and an LED. The lens includes a parabolic section defined about an axis and having a focus. The parabolic section includes a surface traverse to the axis and extends from the axis to a periphery of the parabolic section at a first end of the parabolic section. The parabolic section includes a channel that extends along the axis partially inside the parabolic section at a second end of the parabolic section. The LED is disposed in the channel at the focus of the parabolic section forming an interior space in the channel between the LED and the lens, filled with an optically-transparent material having an index of refraction approximately equal to an index of refraction of the lens that eliminates or reduces effect of an optical interface between the material and the lens on direction of light emitted by the LED.

  • Patent number: 9435495
Abstract: LED lamp (100) including a lens (206) and an LED (204). The lens (206) has a parabolic section (506) defined about axis (510) and a focus (514). The parabolic section (506) includes a surface traverse to the axis (510) and extending from the axis (510) to a periphery of the parabolic section (506) at a first end of the parabolic section (506). The parabolic section (506) includes a channel (512) extending along the axis (512) at least partially inside the parabolic section (506) at a second end of the parabolic section (506). The LED (204) is disposed in the channel (512) at the focus (514). First light rays are internally reflected in the lens (206) and collimated through the surface. Second light rays are transmitted through the lens (206) and the surface in parallel to the axis (510). Third light rays are refracted by the surface toward the axis (510).
