  • Publication number: 20060178932
Abstract: A method and system for distributing electronic coupons offered by businesses via the wireless devices operated by potential customers in a region. The invention includes a wireless communication device and a central server capable of communicating via a wireless communication network The central server is connected to a search engine, a business database containing the names and locations of businesses located in the region offering discounted coupons for goods and services to its potential customers. Connected to the central server is a discount coupon database and a map database that contains coupon information, a graphic file of the coupon, and the businesses location information. When the potential customer desires a discount coupon for a particular service or goods in the region, the potential customer contacts the central server, which instructs the search engine to conduct a search based on the criteria submitted by the potential customer.

  • Publication number: 20030083931
Abstract: A method of advertising to mobile users of an electronic device linked to a wide area network. The method enables advertisers to more effectively target their advertisements to mobile users using a user file that includes their electronic device ID information, their past, current network connection activity, and the past, current or anticipated physical locations. The method includes the first step of obtaining the device's ID information when connected to the wide area network. Next, information regarding the network connection activity of the electronic device or the user over the wide area network is obtained. Next, the past, current or anticipated physical locations of the electronic device when connected to the wide area network is determined. Other personal data regarding the principle user of the electronic device may also be added to the user file to further target specific users.

  • Patent number: 6236933
Abstract: A system for instantaneously monitoring traffic congestion including a plurality of monitoring electronic devices located in motor vehicles traveling on roadways in a selected region. Each monitoring electronic device is coupled to a GPS receiver that provides physical location to a wireless modem capable of connecting to a wireless communication network. The system also includes a central computer connected to a wide area network that is able of continuously downloading physical location information from a plurality of monitoring electronic devices also connected to the wide area network. The central computer uses a traffic monitoring software program and a mapping database containing roadway information for a region and the movement information from the monitoring electronic devices to create a continuously updated traffic congestion database. Authorized users of the system are able to log onto the central computer to a portion of the database that contains specific traffic flow and congestion information.

  • Patent number: 6118403
Abstract: A system that provides information to authorized users regarding the location of speed traps via a wireless communication network connected to a computer wide area network. The system includes the use of a detector for speed detecting equipment, such as a radar detector, which detects the presence of speed detecting equipment and transmits the detection information into an electronic device in the motor vehicle. The electronic device communicates is coupled to a physical location device, such as a GPS receiver, which provides the specific location and direction of the motor vehicle when detection occurs. The electronic device is also coupled to a wireless modem that connects to a wireless communication network and to the wide area network. Connected to the wide area network is a central server that receives uploaded information from a plurality of other motor vehicle operators to create a large information database.
