  • Patent number: 8497303
Abstract: A method to enhance solubility of an active compound comprises combining an active compound, having an aqueous solubility that is less than or equal to about 10 mg/mL, and an amount of methoxypolyethylene glycol that is sufficient to increase the aqueous solubility of the active compound. Enhancement of aqueous solubility for this combination may be significantly greater than that of an active compound in combination with an equivalent amount of polyethylene glycol. Particularly enhanced solubility is shown where a small amount of water is also included. The invention may be used in a wide variety of applications, such as for pharmaceutical, agricultural, antimicrobial, and personal care products.

  • Publication number: 20100288167
Abstract: Provided is a process for preparing low diol content monofunctional polyalkylene glycols. The process includes introducing the initiator feed in two portions (a first and second initiator) and drying only the first initiator to remove water. The first and second initiators can be the same or different. Also provided are new monofunctional polyalkylene glycol compositions.

  • Publication number: 20070185307
Abstract: Polyalkylene glycol compositions having reduced low molecular weight oligomers are disclosed. Some compositions, particularly polyethylene glycol compositions, have a number average molecular weight range from about 3000 to about 10,000 g/mol and have a total oligomer concentration of less than about 400 ppm of all oligomers having a molecular weight of less than or equal to 812 g/mol and a total oligomer concentration of less than about 50 ppm of all oligomers having a molecular weight of less than or equal to 240 g/mol. Other polyalkylene compositions, particularly polyethylene glycol compositions, are characterized by a total oligomer concentration of less than about 90 ppm of all oligomers having a molecular weight less than or equal to 460 g/mol and are obtained without further processing to remove oligomers having a molecular weight of less than about 460 g/mol. Methods for making such compositions are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5430194
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for producing an optically active aldehyde (first aldehyde) containing a reduced amount of the corresponding enantiomeric aldehyde (second aldehyde) which process comprises: (1) providing an initial solution containing a non-eutectic mixture of the first aldehyde and the second aldehyde, which mixture has a composition in the compositional region where only the first aldehyde crystallizes when its solubility limit in the solution is exceeded, and (2) maintaining the solution at a temperature above the eutectic temperature of the mixture and under conditions such that the solubility limit of the first aldehyde is exceeded so as to form a crystalline first aldehyde containing relatively less of the second aldehyde than was present in the initial solution.
